Well, I "improved" the quality of working there, at least. I took an old PII box I had lying around and I threw it out in my garage as my Visio 2002/MP3 box. Perfect for makingh some schematics and jamming while I work.

The specs for the box are:

- Intell PII - 400Mhz (socket 370)
- generic Gateway mobo
- 256Mb pc150 SDRAM
- WD SE 80Gb HDD
- Onboard ATI Rage 128 (8Mb)
- Philips Acoustic Edge 5.1
- Win XP Pro
- 15" Viewsonic LCD (soon to be swapped for a cheapo 15" CRT)

The only downside is, the wife is concerned that I'll be spending more and more time out there now. :p lol

I think she'll survive, there is no chair out there. lol Next mod. :)

Pretty cool, when I get a garage of my own I am anxious to stick a comp in it.

It's actually funny you posted that... I'm working on a webpage to document the mod I'm starting and the page I just finished was: "Work space".

Not to rip on the people who do their mods in the living room coffee table and in the back yard but I'm a strong believer in having a seperate place where you can do your work away from the actual living space of your house. I spent the last two weeks "modding" my workshop in the basement and am now finally ready to start purchasing the parts.

I'll give you credit for starting modding where I think you have to start.

Good job!

By the way... I ran CAT5e to my workshop so that while I'm modding I'll be able to surf [H] for mid-mod inspiration. Good idea putting an old computer there. Just remember to cover it before you start dremeling something... metal dust sucks!

To me, it always seemed dangerous to dremel inside. I guess it's that those little metal bits like to find their way into barefeet. I guess you work with what you've got, though.

Great workspace. I wish I had a nice place to work indoors like that. I'd suggest some fan filters to help keep dust and such out, but aside from that it looks cool.

nice. I have a PII setup in my basement as well. I'm running an old CRT on one of those swingarm things.

Why winxp pro waste don't you think?

I was wondering that myself, shortly after install. Would I be better off just installing Win2K, to reduce the bloat?

I think that or win98se would be good. Windows XP is too heavy for a 400mhz.

Alrighty. I'll change out OS's this weekend, if I got the time. Thanks

That's really nice... I so wish I had a nice big area to have all my tools and stuff organized like that... :) I have carved a section of my book case out for that... Just big enough to work on a video card (new HSF etc)... barely big enough for a mobo... lol... Anyways, nice work area!!

if you get cold winters, those temps will drop like crazy on that beast ;)
