I’m a PC

Well that was enjoyable! It felt a lot more natural/organic/unscripted than the Apple commercials... what kind of placement did it get on TV? (I don't watch..)

Instead of " Life without walls" I would go with " Life without bars". Given the fact that you are pretty much at Apples mercy most of the time.

Maybe they should just have the PC guy ask the Mac guy, "How are you at playing games?" Then have the Mac guy look puzzled. End of commercial.

The Apple ads are still better. This one doesn't seem to be targeting the right people. The people that use Apple products use them because they want to be different, they want a "superior" experience. They don't want to be an average Joe with an average computer. They want something the 'just works' better. If Microsoft is attempting to recapture some of the Apple audience then they're going to need a different approach.

Its funny how over the years Mac's have gone from "business" usage in terms of 3D modeling , photo editing and music , to being a "hip" product . The term "hip" is just dumb to begin with .. Apple are just incredibly intelligent when it comes to marketing , If you think about it they are selling parts that are a fraction of the cost of what they charge. Apple makes a boat load of profit selling lower grade parts in a pretty package, all because of the "hip" factor that people believe they are buying into a not only a powerful system with high end parts but a pretty package that states they are "with it".

There was a time when Mac was viable option for being secure and virus free but that time has come and pass. Mac's have more unpatched security issues than Vista does now , they are also getting there share of viruses .. Safari is considered one of the worst offenders of security issues and when they released it on windows it was a downright joke. Vista is just as stable as OSX , I've had crashes on both systems but they are few and far between.

I do like the new Windows ads , they don't point fingers (smart) but they get the point across very well. Mac ads are just insulting people into feeling like buying a PC makes you nerd or an idiot ... not a great way to treat possible future consumers. I don't mind my Mac but if my job didn't pay for it I would have never bought it.

It's nice to see an actual commercial instead of that Seinfeld junk.

But in a life without walls, where do you put your windows and gates? :p

Was good up until the punch line "without walls" HAH. Try re-writing anything in windows, good luck with that reverse engineering.

If windows has no walls, then GNU/Linux and BSD comparatively is the entirety of space.

Fail.

Here's something I don't understand about the Mac commercial where the PC guy is upset that Mac runs Office. Why does Microsoft make Office for the Mac?

same with the NEW microsoft operating system. 5 idiots sit down and in 5 minutes they can see that vista is great.

of course 98% of all computer users, and 100% of all console users fall into this catagory.. They know nothing but if it looks good W O W

No, the reason why Macs now have so many virus', exploits, etc is because of increased market share. Before, the market share was so low, why even bother? All OS's, and apps, have holes.

But Mac said in their commerical they're more "secure." Now they're really feeling the effects of having to update their software every month now like MS.

They are using PC as "people connecting." Microsoft is highlighting that Windows is part of a common language uniting people around the globe. As some of the print ads come out it will be illustrated more easily. Microsoft is putting a focus on "people connecting" and it encompasses more than just the PC. The "people connecting" theme carries over to their mobile products, the laptops, media center, etc. So the purpose in using PC isn't necessarily to highlight the "personal computer" but all the technology products that Microsoft has to connect people.
QFT... more of a Microsoft commercial than a Windows one.

Here's something I don't understand about the Mac commercial where the PC guy is upset that Mac runs Office. Why does Microsoft make Office for the Mac?

B/C they make money on that too.

I never understood this either...though my guess is its leftover from the mindset of macs not being a threat. now that microsoft has to acknowledge that that the propaganda department at apple is running on overdrive and actually making headway.. i would question whether you will see office on mac in the next incarnation. since now they have to actually you know...market windows this time around

if you are going to say "Fail" at least back it up with something....

because he is right (in a way).... the open source OS world is not just as liberated as the Windows world, it is as free as you want it to be....... it might not be as developed as the Windows world, but when we're talking about windows, not walls/freedom/etc, you can't say with a straight face that Windows matches the open source OSes.....

I liked it; much better than the Mac commercials. The Mac commercials are a little funny at but they get old quick...

*** I just have to note.... I run Vista x64 on my main computer in a dual boot with BSD.... and I find myself using Vista at least 2x more than BSD just because of how damn productive I am in it....

Why does Microsoft make Office for the Mac?

a better question is why until the latest release of office was it always cheaper on the Mac than on the PC>>>>>see PC not Microsoft ?????

Its funny how over the years Mac's have gone from "business" usage in terms of 3D modeling , photo editing and music , to being a "hip" product . The term "hip" is just dumb to begin with .. Apple are just incredibly intelligent when it comes to marketing , If you think about it they are selling parts that are a fraction of the cost of what they charge. Mac lost that niche a while ago. modeling programs for the most part run much better for me on windows systems, and adobes editing products finally caught up with the in house mac ones.. I have talked to several people who preferred the latest premiere over final cut.

they had to redesign because it was only a matter of time before they lost that edge.

Here's something I don't understand about the Mac commercial where the PC guy is upset that Mac runs Office. Why does Microsoft make Office for the Mac?

Microsoft's Office monopoly is arguably more important to them than the Windows monopoly.

Regardless, this ad is NOT about recapturing Mac users.

Let me repeat that.

This ad is NOT about recapturing Mac users.

This ad is about fixing Vista's reputation. Apple has given the Windows image a good beating.

I don't think Microsoft is making these commercials for the right people. A lot of you guys like it, which is good, but you're already probably fans of things not apple so you appreciate the tasteful ad. I bet most other people will find it boring and useless since it doesn't point out the ways in which windows is better than os x.

No, it showed that the Mac Commercials depiction of PC users is complete bullshit, which is something most tech users have known since Day 1.

Aside from technical people, most people don't really buy based on relevant facts, they buy based on emotions, image and advertising.

Is it perfect? No, but at least it wasn't total bs like some of the mac ads, which seemed to harp on problems that Windows hadn't had in years.

This ad is about fixing Vista's reputation.

How so? Vista wasn't mentioned once. Hell even the name Microsoft was barely used.

The success of the Apple ads have come mostly in part because they use brand recognition and format repetition. The Apple ads have a clear and succinct point, where as these ads have a vague message.

Yeah their point is "if you use a pc you're a loser, oh and listen to us lie and exaggerate about our products". It may sell well now, but it'll catch up to them and bite them in the ass.

Well said.

What's your point? All advertising is designed to make other products look inferior and for you to be a better person if you use their product. Substitue PC for Pepsi and Mac for Coke and you get the idea.

Oh grow up. Very few to no other commercials blatantly lie about everything and then tell their consumers what morons they are for using the competition's product like Apple does.

The Pepsi Challenge for example simply ask you "what do you like best?" and let the consumer chose. The Coke commercial just shows off a topless guy and a bunch of girls swooning over him.

Neither of them goes out of the way and say "Hey you're drinking Pepsi. You're a loser and a nerd because you're not using Coke products. Oh and by the way Coke never gives you a virus."

Please show where Apple "blantantly lies about everything" and then call consumers "morons".

Just look at some of the commercials (Apple has them on their website) - that PC guy is going to therapy because Vista crashes all the time, they claim that printers do not work, They say that you need to spend hours searching for drivers, that UAC constantly gets in the way (even though Apple has had a similar feature for ages) etc. They always make that "I'm a PC" guy look like a moron towards the end of the commercial. The Apple commercials are ten times worse than any coke vs pepsi ad or similar.

the microsoft commercials just plain out suck... and bad

i'm a windows guy.. so.. i'm ashamed of the ms commercials.. i mean, they could have gotten Mr. T and his night elf mohawk to do a ms commercial.. or.. or.. let william shatner do a startrek bridge scene knockoff powered by windows...

so many good ideas.. but alas, just like vista, they put crap commercials on tv

i may not use a mac, but at least i can say mac's have GOOD commercials..

It's funny you say that because just the other day my girlfriend couldn't get her printer to work with Vista, she spent over an hour trying different drivers, AND Vista crashed one her, so she gave up.

{quote]UAC constantly gets in the way (even though Apple has had a similar feature for ages) etc. [/QUOTE]

UAC does constantly get in the way, that's why I turned it off.

Much better than the stupid Bill and Jerry commercials. I really hope Seinfeld didn't write the material for those things...if he did then he needs to stay retired for the rest of his life and live off residuals from his tv show.

I think the latest add may not be as cute and funny as the Mac ads, but they make a very fundemental point, Windows PC (though Windows isn't mentioned but we know that's what the ads mean) is everywhere and does everything for all sorts of people. If the Widnows PC were as bad as Apple claims then how would this be possible?

This add bitch slaps the Mac ads in a classy and subtle way I think. The "I am PC" line followed by whatever insult follows is now an insult on all of the billion or so people that use a Windows PC every day.

This is the true power and genious of Microsoft and why Microsoft has generated so much REAL wealth as a company vs. the fake wealth off Wall Street. They have given ordinary people an extraordinary tool in the PC and made it affordable and easy to use for the most part. I know that a lot of people will disagree with this assessment but this is how I and a lot of people see it. And by a lot I mean hundreds of millions.

Windows FTW!

well i can't agree with macs having good commercials...

but shatner + a windows powered bridge would get me to buy it

shatner rules

I enjoyed it. I really hate commercials that are out to attack the other company just to gain market shares. Doesn't matter, Mac is still small niche in the computer industry compared to pc's. I guess these MS commercials are designed to give pc users renewed faith in their operating system rather than a direct attack against the other camp.
