After answering a knock at the front door, look what was dropped off for me this evening after being delayed for 2 weeks

I've been planning a new build for over a year, I think in the last 2 months it had changed into ITX. This brought it down realistic limit for me. Gone are the dual rads and custom case mods, I'm in SFF restricted lands. And if I was going to do it, I wanted to go all out. No front bays and 2 rear expansion slots were the main factors choosing a case this time around.
When I saw the Mini Cube It fit the bill. I was going to use a Node 304, but something about Cubitek's offering drew me in.

Funny... I can see the pictures just fine.

Out of curiosity, where did you order all of the parts from? Hell, which order did you place your order(s)?
 
tiraides...xyexz is right about where the case came from. NCIX was the keyboard and ram. www.performance-pcs.com is where the next batch of pics came from, but it only a partial delivery. The rest (PSU) according to UPS will show-up on Monday.
The order of these went quietpcusa - performance-pcs - NCIX. This is everything that has been ordered so far. The main components are a pay cheque away, but I have a trip coming up so it is gonna depend on whether or I think I can hold back on my excitement

A Skythe Katana 4. Building around that Cubitek case only leaves 150mm for the heatsink so options get kinda limited.

That is the 4 pin version that will be used as a case intake. Not really sure how I am gonna connect that yet. I have a 4-3 pin adapter so it could connect to the CHA_FAN header. Once it gets assembled I will have a listen and then decide. Further down the road I'll do a little research and see if the cpu_fan header can handle the draw of both fans. However I am already thinking no.

Any guesses? It's a magnetic fan filter. Now before anyone mentions that the case is aluminum, it comes with an adhesive strip the same shape as the frame for the magnet to stick to. If you are wondering about the camo pattern, I was looking at all the colours available and having a hard time deciding, then I became logical about it and realized that the intake is on the bottom so out of sight. Camo put it more out of sight lol.

Not being to wait any longer, I have enuf to begin some assembly. First the Noctua fan. This is my first time using those rubber posts. Trying to snug those in in the blind corner was freaking impossible. I am only 90% sure I got that back one in. Next in is the ST55F-G (PSU). A perfect fit beside the fan. There is a thumb screw on the inside floor of the case that holds the intake filter for the PSU. I only mention this because there is still enuf room to get at this with out tools ergo there is room for the power cables.

Ok now flip to the bottom and install the filter for the intake fan. AAAAAAnd it doesn't fit. One of the feet are in the way. OK remove the offending foot, stare at the problem, don;t know the solution yet but it's time to bring the case out to the shop.

Which mad me look at the intake grill for the PSU, wow those holes are small. 5/32 to be exact. let's push those out to 13/64. For you number guys ...with a 5/32 diameter the area of the hole is 0.019174759848570515. By moving up to 13/64 we are now at 0.03240534414408417 square inches. that's a 59% increase!

That's enuf for today. It might be a few days before I get to the hardware store to get a few parts to reattach the feet. There will have to be a space between the foot and the case in order for the filter to fit. If you look at the top of the fan hole picture, you will see a screw hole. That is the centre of the foot. (actually if you look at the picture before the fan hole is cut you can see the outline of where the foot was) I am thinking a rubber washer will be sufficient for the filter to fit. Half the fun is seeing what you can find in the store.
 
Too bad this case unfortunately comes in no other colors, but I asked if they would be available in the future. Their reply:

This build got put on hold for a bit and then Haswell came out, so a few minor modifications (and thankfully LGA1155 and 1150 have the same mounting holes!) This build now houses an i5 4670!

This was not my original positioning of the drives. In the original layout there was not space for the connectors. I think this is a bad design on Cubitek's part. and maybe it is just me but trying to find a set of holes that line up with the mounting feet was much too difficult especially since it depends on the orientation.

I have a Cubitek Mini Cube as well, I love this case. Not many US owners of them right now. I feel special!
