Why don't people get together and sue the crap out of steam and valve?

Seesm to me they have an "AOL" scam going and we all know how that turned out..

Because litigation takes time, money, patience.....and a hell of alot more money. Not only that, but there is the risk of costs being awarded against you if you are unsuccessful, so not only do you become liable for your legal bill (which will most likely be 100,000 - 200,000 if the matter is taken to trial), you also become liable for the other parties legal bill (although only on a party/party basis unless indemnity costs are awarded against you).

Federal Class action under Rule 23 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure or a state class action? Unless there's some federal ingredient under 25 USC 1331, we'd need the amount in controversy for named members of the class to exceed $75,000 and complete diversity under 25 USC 1332, so I guess that's out unless there's some federal ingredient to the claim.

If it's a state action, what state do we bring it? Texas is pretty god-awful for class actions, but other states aren't quite so bad...

Of course, for any of this, we'd need to state a claim under which relief can be granted. What law has Steam or Valve broken?

Finally, class actions are notorious for not actually helping the class much at all. Is it worth it to see the next copy of HL selling for $10 more to cover legal costs (assuming a win) so that we can all get a $.50 coupon for the problems with steam?

I am not a lawyer, BTW... This information should not be taken as legal advice.

Yeah, with a very large company making millions and millions of dollars.

what would the grounds be for this big time class action lawsuit by the way? I'm real curious.

Hey, if you're serious, why don't you just call your local bar association and ask for the name of a good litigator? OR you could use your own lawyer who already handles your important legal issues. :p

This sumbitch (the thread) needs to get locked up tight... -1 for being a partial thought, -2 for that partial thought being dumb as hell. Thanks for being a member of sue-happy America.
