I have to admit…. I did not know that.

I just always changed the sort order to process ID, or something more stable like memory usage. 🤷‍♂️
 
Pressing the CTRL key does not pause it for me. I'm on windows 10. There is a way to do it in the menu though.

I've always done sort by name, no jumping around there. The only time I sort by usage is if I'm trying to track down something that's hogging all the resources.
Resource Monitor is better for that, especially for memory and disk usage since it shows every handle instead of just the programs running.
