Luck of the draw.

8x multiplier, 400 FSB giving you 3.2GHz. I say it depends on your motherboard (assuming you're not using crap RAM).

The E6550 has a 7x multiplier. I had no problems at 3.33MHz (476x7) but I had to up core volts to 1.42. Currently running at 3.15MHz (450 x 7) core volts 1.37 runs sweet and cool.
