I got something from facebook yesterday.
I clicked on a video and no I get random internet anti-virus messages.
Every 3-4 minutes a anti virus web site will pop-up even if I’m not on line.

What’s the best way to take care of this?
I have run Spybot and I have Norton’s a corp. version.

I’m looking to load web root, Superantispyware or Avast 5.
These are the ones checked out on the web. Not one of the pop-ups.

Thanks

Fake AV viruses can sometimes be a real pain to remove. If you have to ask how to remove it, I would agree that you should just back up your data and reinstall windows. It will save you a lot of time in the long run.

Disable system restore and scan with Microsoft Security Essentials.

I'd also add Malwarebytes as another/backup scanner since there is no one scanner that can catch everything. Better to be safe then sorry.

What OS? You can manually try and dig out the files if you need to. Often times these fake AV's will create a hidden folder under: C:\Documents and Settings\All users\Start Menu or in the general area. There could be shortcuts in your profile that link to the startup; check the desktop and startup folders.

Clean out temp/temp inet files too.

First download CCleaner (FREE)

http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner
click download latest version in the topright corner (bluetext)

This will clean all temp/files folders on your system taht spyware usually hides in. Most spyware resides in yoru internet temp folders. Instead of sorting through them for known ones via updates. Ccleaner just deletes all temp so that you really don't have to deal with them.

Install Spybot Search and Destory (FREE)

It is the most demanding cleaner Ive found but is the only one that gets them all Ive found.
I woudn't install teacup though. It is free for life as well.

oh yeah don't forget to go to application settings on facebook and delete any apps that have(UNKOWN APPLICATION) beside it. this is a tracking app used for God only knows what.

http://fileforum.betanews.com/download/Spybot-Search-Destroy/1043809773/1

Then install a Avg Antivirus (FREE)
http://download.avgfree.com/filedir/inst/avg_free_stf_en_90_730a1834.exe

It's a one of the most widely used free antiviruses outthere.

If you would like download Zonealarm firewall (FREE)
http://download.cnet.com/ZoneAlarm/3000-10435_4-10039884.html?part=dl-69168&subj=dl&tag=button

Then you willl have a clean system after this. If your system is corrupted and you are running xp then do the following.if you don't want to reinstall are your client has to much crap to save and would be a headache to put all his/her crap into place.

Get your Windows XP CD

Steps:

1) First place the CD into your CD/DVD Drive.

2) Go to start

3) type “run”

4) type in “sfc /scannow” (without the “)

Now, it should load and fix all your corrupted file on Windows XP.

Then to reset all updates to update corrupted files that were overwritten with old versions from the cd do this. follow this link and it will reset all updates as if you haven't had any from a fresh install.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058/
Failure to do this last step if you do the sfc/scannow will result in a system with older and newer versions of files that will casue a bluescreen.

if you do all of this you will have a clean system.

GO TO APPLICATION SETTINGS on facebook and delete any apps titled (UNKOWN APPLICATION) it is a tracker used for GOD only knows what.

Everytyhing you've listed is junk, except for maybe Super Antispyware.

Do a full sweep with MalwareBytes and reboot. Then install MSE for dynamic protection and full sweep with MSE, then again with MalwareBytes for good measure. If for some reason this is that nasty one that hides your icons and blocks everything from runnning (installers), you'll have to sweep it on another machine. Just make sure you have something better than Norton on it incase of worms.

Save people a lot of posting...
Head on over to the Networking and Security forum...over there we have a stickied thread about malware removal tools and methods. It's all there.

I had McAffe previously, and then I Downloaded the FREE MSE. It found so many viruses and my computer was so much faster. I suggest that you D/L MSE and Malwarebytes. After you scan with these, D/L CCleaner to clean up all that junk that is left on your computer. Then, Remove your previous Virus scanner, and set MSE as your Virus scnanner. Here is a poll that I made showing that MSE is the best. Hope this helped!

Well I got to load in Superantispyware.
I tried malware and MSE. the links here and on google and if I type in the linl I get web site not found or broke link.
It's like Explorer is broken.

#1: Go into Control Panel --> Internet Options --> Advanced --> Reset

This will disable any crappy addons including malware addons in IE as well as resetting all IE settings back to default.

Then Restart IE.

#2: Get Trojan Remover, update, and scan: http://www.simplysup.com/

After it scan and completes the fixes (probably have to reboot to finish the fixes) - uninstall it.

#3: If you have any Norton of Mcafee "security" software installed, uninstall it and install MSE if you can get to the page to download it: http://www.microsoft.com/security/

Run a full scan after updating.

#4: Get malwarebytes, update, and do a complete scan: http://www.malwarebytes.org/

#5: Get Spybot S&D, install (custom install WITHOUT Teatimer), update, immunize, and do a scan.

After that, the system should be pretty clean.... but you may have issues with jacked up permissions in the registry, folder, and files if you have anything especially nasty on your system. If that is the case, you can either do a search for a script to restore default permissions.. but there are only a couple out there that actually do the complete fix.

If you can't find one, send me a PM and I will post it for download and give you a link.. make sure to tell me what version of Windows you have.

Thanks this forum is great.
I will try after work.
If I can't get on line I will down load on a different computer and load it to my mem stick.
This will help with my internet problem correct?
I have windows XP and I'm running Explorer 7. I never loaded 8 because I heard of the problems.
My brother said to run Xfire.

The virus may have corrupted your TCP/IP settings initially or will, after removal. So you may need to use a small program like winsockxpfix to restore/reregister those necessary files to gain network connectivity.

Internet explorer, in my opinion, is a horrible search engine. You should go with Mozilla Firefox. It is much than IE. The virus could have found a way to block these websites on IE. This happened to me when I got a virus.

Great catch there! Big problem.
