Hello, my sister recently got an apple ibook g4, and she also wants a portable hdd and an.. iPod.. becuz shes so greedy that and her birthdays coming up, she mentioned something about a combo hdd built in an iPod, u think there is such thing? if so that'll save me on a lot of money haha.

Thanks guys

Yes, the iPod can be used as a portable hard drive in addition to playing music.

the iPod is basicaly a small form factor HD in either 15, 20 or 40 Gig for the regular size ipods and a 4Gig micro drive on the iPod Minis..they can be used as either an external HD, MP3 player or both but I will let you know that if you are looking at the Mini you will probably have to wait about 4 weeks as they are VERY popular

Isn't it funny how everyone thought mini's were gonna fail, being that for $50 you get 11 more gigs... but in the end, people aren't stopping at anything for one... God Bless Apple.

well from what I have heard...one of the things that is driving the ipod mini's is the Hitachi 4gig micro drive that is in them and since it is a standard piece it is cheaper to rip apart an ipod mini than to buy one of these drives outright

Same with Creative MuVo, and it's even cheaper.

But you gotta admit, that mini is cooler than anything else in its class.. I bet a good majority of the people buying mini's actually use them. Think... the 4gb microdrives are mostly in the interests of professional photographers, when thier 8 megapixel cameras chew through bits too fast... And considering such cameras cost in the vicinities of $1000, the market is not HUGE...

Unfortunately due to the firmware on the drive inside the mini it can't be used as a microdrive for use in compact flash readers. Only the creative ones are out of the box usable.. there are people who've tweeked the mini drives as well but apparently it's difficult and I've heard a lot of people not being able to..

Thus.... the sales of the minis are simply due to their huge demand for the product itself rather than the drive inside!

At Palo Alto the green and the pink mini's have about an 8 week wait... it's crazy stuff...

If anyone wants a mini real bad, go for the gold... it's the shortest wait of all of them. The silvers and blues are also not too bad.. (about 4 weeks) but nowhere near as quick to get as the gold.

Next huge product is going to be the Airport Express! We've had SOOOOo many requests for those at the store... I'd suggest if you want one, order it on the web ASAP or put one on reserve at an Apple Store.. cause it'll be a big seller...
