I have a question

I just installed a Vantec Nexus Fan Light controller, model NXP-305-BK and I have some questions about it.

I have 5 fans attached to it, instead of 3 (it says one fan per knob), will this cause any problems?

Also, I can turn off the fans with this unit, does it do any damage to have them off? I am just scared that it might do something bad to the fans.

I just want to know how safe this product is.

The good thing is that when I turn off all the fans, all I can hear is the power supply, which will be changed soon to a silent one :)

My PC makes just as much noise as my other watercooled PC :p

First thing you might want to do is check the voltage rating on each channel and yes if the package says one fan were channel then I would be worried to put more than that. Also turning the fans off completing should not be a problem and I think it will not hurt them.

Not the voltage rating, the power rating! That's what you need to be worried about. Check out how much current each fan draws, and then check how much current @ +12v that the fan controller can take per channel. I would suspect that the fan controllor will be fine simply because it doesn't have problems with super high current draw fans such as vantec tornados and the like.

It can take 18w per channel. To find the wattage being used, multiply the current (amps) buy the voltage (12).

I have the very same controller, even the same colour, and I have no problems running six or seven fans. It doesn't hurt it to have the fans off, there just isn't any voltage going to the fans.

I have 4 of these, 2 in each channel, plus one default fan that came with the case.

Voltage Rating 12V
Input Current 0.15A
Input Power 1.80W

The fan controller allows up to 18W, so how am I doing?

i have 3 of the coolermaster led fans on 1 channel and a tornado on the other, no problems.
