I need just a basic computer. I don't know whether to go with Celeron or not. Needs to be Intel, everything on board including sound and video..Basically just a computer and a monitor for internet and word proccessing/excel use for under $400..

Can you guys help? please and thanks...

I was thinking the same thing. Everything Intel can do (well, until you talk about HT), AMD can as well. AMD might be cheaper, as well.

Meh, celerons are a waste of money. For low end computers, go AMD. Even if it doesn't matter, no sence getting a celeron when you can get an Athlon XP for about the same price range. A mobile 2400+ or a Barton desktop 2500+ will completely own a Celeron of the same price range.

Anyway, I'd go with a mobile or desktop 2400+ or 2500+, a brand name motherboard (Shuttle Ultra400 nForce2 is a good low end overclocking board, no integrated video, but you can pick up an old PCI graphic card for like 1 dollar on ebay or something if you don't need high-end... 512MB ram (or 256 if you can't fit it in to the budget), an 80 gig hard drive (62 bucks on newegg), etc. will make a nice computer for around 400 dollars

Hey now, the new Celeron D's have a 533 FSB and go up to 2.8...I think that's pretty darn good...however, the Athlon XP's are fine as well....for the monitor, see if you have any PC places around your town...they may have a cheap used monitor you could clean up and use.
