So today I go to try out a little UT2004 to test the new dedicated server I just put up on my file server. I play for five or so minutes, it crashes and freezes my computer. I reboot, try again, it does the same thing. I try downclocking my CPU to stock, underclocking my memory, and running my vid card at stock- each different try results in in the same thing: crash and freeze.
As I come back up from a reboot, the system goes EXTREMELY slow. Until I move my mouse. I quickly find out that the ONLY way to get any response from my computer is to move my mouse. WTF?!?!?! How the fuck does something like that happen?!?! If I click the Firefox window, then leave my mouse still, the window won't open on the screen until I move the mouse. I manage to open UT2004 again, and 3d works perfectly. Of course, it results in a crash and freeze again, but that's a given.
So I reboot into safe mode. It doesn't do it. Driver issue I say. So I completely uninstall all of the ATI drive suite, and I mean completely. I hand-searched the registry for keys. I followed every ATI drive removal guide out there and used Driver Clean. Reboot into normal Windows, and it works fine. Install the latest Omega drivers, which are newer than my old set, and reboot. AND IT FUCKING DOES IT AGAIN!!!! ARRRRRGHHH.
At that point I had had enough of my computer. Reboot, boot off CD, rename Documents and Settings & Windows folders to something else, re-fucking-install Windows.
And I proceed to spend the next two hours downloading all of the drivers and software I need, as well as copying over everything from the old install. I then install all of the drivers and service pack 1 in one boot, and reboot. The WinXP boot screen comes up, then goes away. All I see is a black screen. Then the computer reboots. And continues to do the same thing. Over and fucking OVER. I try Safe Mode. Same thing. I try Last Known Good Configuration. SAME FUCKING THING. Once again: ARRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHH. I fucking hate this piece of shit.
So here I am, a good four to five hours after my initial problem, reinstalling Windows for the second fucking time tonight.
I really hate this piece of shit computer.
