I hate my Audigy

Hey guys, I am having tons of problems with my audigy soundcard. Its a Audigy X-Gamer when it came out. Just today I reinstalled windows and installed the drivers for my soundcard as well. The only thing I installed for the card is the drivers, Surrondmixer 2, and Audio HQ. I also have a 5.1 speaker system. Everything is plugged in correctly. Now, what happens is when I go to play music, I hear it coming out of my 2 front speakers and the woofer. Shouldn't it come out of the rear too? I think it should. So I go to the Surrond Mixer to change my speaker setup and I can't change from 2 speakers to anything higher. The bar where I used to be able to change it doesn't work. So I am annoyed at this point and decide to test the speakers in that program. I hit the button, and see two of the speakers "light" up, but hear no noise at all. So I go back to my music, and play something. Nothing!!! Nothing will play at all. I see winamp working, but nothing out of the speakers. I am getting pissed off at this software junk that comes with the card. Is there any way for me to fix my problem? Or should I look at buying another card? If I need a new card, which should I buy? Thanks for your help.

By the way, I can't get sound back again untill I reinstall the drivers and software. I also tried the web updates, but they tell me that they need the latest version of drivers. When I try to install that, they tell me they can't find an audigy card. Any suggestions?

your music will only play out of two speakers since it was recorded in stereo. you can use the CMSS upmix to play it through all your speakers.

well, that still doesn't really help me much. Another example is when I setup doom 3, I can't select surrond sound. In fact its the same with every game. Even DVDs I can't get the speakers to work. I can't even change the mode to 5.1 in the sudigy setup. It is stuck in 2 speaker mode.

Have you checked to see what Windows is set to in the multimedia area of the control panel? Its named differently for different versions of Windows, but hit the control panel and go into anything related to audio or multimedia. Somewhere is a place you can set what type of speakers you have (headphones, quad, 5.1, etc). The creative driver is probably supposed to change that, but you may want to double-check.

you wont be able to select surround sound unless your sound card is set to 5 speaker mode.

so, in the mixer application that came with your audigy, set it to 5 speaker mode there. and to double check, make sure it's set to 5 speaker mode in the windows sounds and audio devices portion of your control panel.

one last thing, some games have a REALLY nasty habit of setting you in 2 speaker mode after exiting. if this pops up again, that's probably why.

good luck.

ok, well changing my speaker configuration in wondows control panal kinda worked. I ungrayed the 2 speakers in my sound mixer program. However when I test my speakers and the computer makes noise out of each speakers it is only making nooise out of the front left and front left. When it tests the rear speakers and centre speakers it only does it queiter in the frond speakers. The rear ones and centre aren't doing anything! Any ideas again? I know the all the speakers work, because I plugged them into my PPC, and they work fine. Thanks for all the help again.

Is my card messed?

No. Your drivers should be all removed. I usually will also cleanup the registry to get rid of everything. Then install from the Audigy CD, then do a web update (or update from the files you downloaded).

It's just the drivers and utilities.

I will try, however I when install from the cd and try the webupdates, it just tells me that there is no audigy device found. How do I remove the audigy software? Then I will have just the drivers, and I will try to configure it in windows.
