The article above mentions how NVs stock prices have declined 40% in 3 months, I have been following this pretty closely, it essentially says, sales aren't to blame, its production costs. And then at the end of the article the guy tells NV that they should lower their costs, not increase them.

IF you have been under a rock the past 8 months, you will see NV has gone from a position of projecting their market dominance to doing the bare minimum to compete and to sell us last years 600 dollar card for 300 today. Essentially we are getting a 300 dollar card, but it lacks the 'value' that yesterdays cards had, and this is due to NV cutting production costs where they can.

Basically everyone here, and everyone at the INQ has been ripping NV left and right for their decision to release the bare minimum instead of crushing ATi in the ground (Without considering what that would do for the market, or how that would effect NV, just people thinking for themselves). Then I see this article today, telling NV that their in for a bit of trouble, and that they should cut costs, absolutely everything they have been against since they found out that G92 wasn't the second coming of jesus christ.

I mention all of this because I see the same kind of hypocrisy here on these forums, people thinking about themselves, coming out with one statement, but their actions reflect differently. I won't mention names, you know who you are.

Thoughts?

Mass media , they're just spreading a bunch of bullshit in hopes that the people reading it, get pumped - it worked in your case :)

Nvidia is doing great, their business tactics are keeping them alive and have been for many years. I find it funny that the big guys are being picked on now, rather than the lower quality and inferior products that is ATi.

instead of crushing ATi in the ground

wow... biased perhaps?

NV is bidding its time. as far as i can tell. unless it really is in that bad shape, then ATI can crush it, but we all know tis a cycle.

makes sense to me. Ati has nothing but a road map for now, if it cant meet it, why should Nvidia invest more money, while the yesterdays equipment still kicks tail.

in other words.

If youre OPEC and everyone is buying oil at todays crazy prices, why would you increase production? even if this president asks?
OPEC: Hi, were OPEC, and we will now shoot ourselves in the foot by increasing supply, there by lowering the price and working more to get the same profits....

I really dont see the difference, but then again, im not an Nvidia insider, and i dont know what they have up their sleeve. But I give ATI a few months of market dominance when they release something new before Nvidia trumps it.

nvidia stocks are at the same level they were 1 year ago. they had a huge jump in the 07 holiday season. now that thats over they are back to normal levels.

wow... biased perhaps?

So I am wrong? Nvidia isn't a full year ahead of ATi in R&D? That the 65/35 discrete video card marketshare isn't a reality but a fixation in the market that has yet to correct iself? NV went from 45/55 marketshare with ATi to 65/35 in 1 year, it was probably closer to 70/30 prior to 3 series.

So it would be too great of a leap in logic to believe that if nvidia wanted to continue this one up war with ATi that had been going on for a few years, but this time without the pressure of ATi, and released a product with the same kind of improvements and innovations that NV would bring to the table with said competition, and they release a card with 30, 40, 50% improvement over their 8800 series in the same time frame as all of their other leaps in performance, that ATi wouldn't be up a river without a paddle, that ATis marketshare wouldn't drop lower than 30% because of the wide performance discrepancy? and that ATi wouldn't be in trouble of dropping off the face of the earth because their development cycles have become an entire step behind that of Nvidia?

Ati wouldn't drop off the face of the earth tomorrow if NV had that kind of performance lead because they still produce (have produced) chips for the x360 en mass (and the wii), but whos going to want to sign a contract with ATi for a new console GPU when NVs chips can just blow them out of the water?

Or am I just biased for even mentioning such things?

Believe it or not, NV needs ATi to be around to give them competition at any level in order to maintain its position and dominance in the market, and in order to sustain the momentum they will need to compete with intel next year. You got to remeber, next year is intels debut into the high end graphics market. If they are successful, Ati would then be pushed to number 3, and we all know what happens to the number 3 of any two pony market.

I like where NV is going, if I had the money, they would be my next video card, but that doesn't mean because of said stated fact, that I want to see ATi burn into the ground and therefore will do what I can in order to see them fail. I am just stating fact, show me the bias in that.
