Hi All!

:)

I'm putting togheter my HTPC but the problem is that I have a 250GB SATA HDD laying around and I do not have a floppy drive! :(

So question is : can I install the SATA drivers from a USB Pen drive ? Motherboard is an ABIT NF7-S rev 1.0

No you can't. It's floppy drive, integrate the drivers into the pre-install of the XP/2000 disc, or copy the drivers to the hard drive before manually starting the XP install.
 
If the controller is on the motherboard, then it should show up somewhere in BIOS. Look around for integrated devices in the BIOS menu and see if it is there. If the device is enabled, then connected drives *should* be reported during POST. Just in case, make sure your SATA drives do not have umpers on them, because as far as I know they do not require them for normal operation (no master/slave in SATA)
 
Having a floppy-less system isnt a big deal. I havent had a working floppy in 6 years now. Just use Nlite to slipstream your drivers into your XP install (if using windows). The key phrase is "Text-mode drivers." If you use linux, anything past 2.6.8 kernel should be golden.
 
I didn't use a floppy for about four years until I built a DOS system last week. Because of this, I installed a floppy drive in my main box, but it's an LS-120 drive with faster read/write when used with standard floppies.

Plus I had 110 new Sony floppies I got for a buck a box so it looks as though I'll be able to put them to good use finally.

should I still press F6 even with the SATA drivers slipstreamed?

not on the NF7-s, no. most NF2 boards didnt do the "show SATA drives as IDE to make windows see them" trick, and they wont show up in hte bios, only in the SATA controller bios.
 
Thank you so much for all the help guys....

:) ended up slipstreaming the drivers and all is well now! My HTPC is up and running!
