I found a 640MB Video Card

That's meant for a graphics workstation; probably won't be any use in gaming.

Well it might do pretty well in gaming, but probably not much better then a 6800 Ultra and at a price of 1,100$ U.S. It's an Extreamly Expensive card. Not good at all for gamers.

why 640mb though, thats sorta odd

everyone else is about to come out with 512mb cards...lets one up them and throw in an extra 128mb just for kicks!

because its not meant for games, its meant for things that actually need all that memory (CAD and its ilk)

that sucker is huge.
I wonder if it could help my computer render better in Architectural Desktop 2004.

yeah i do alot of image/graphics rendering and that card would save me ALOT OF TIME! man it would render fast. but i game also so i wouldnt want to find out what kind of fps i get on it. but then again it can probably do really good. just never know

you would be surprised....i asked a similar question in a previous post(ill look for it and edit this later) and they had a matrox parahelia.....in doom3 a radeon 9000!! PWNED it......it was quite sad...

ed* http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=793698&page=2&pp=20 ...and theres a link to a review on the 2nd page....

Yes , they are expensive do to the very pricey validation process. The carsds are not optimized for gaming.

Did I mention Half Life 2 is released? i am downloading it now through steam.

dont get excited its not the actual game.....HL2 isnt officially released until september something (at least thats what the EB guy told me)

cad card...useless for gaming.

this uses some 3dlabs chipset, not like the firegl's which use radeon gpu's and quadro's that use geforce gpu's.

anxious to see the benchmarks... if they are still getting beat by quadro's... 3dlabs just needs to give it up

Well I found this...

Wildcat Realizm 800 Features
The 16-lane PCI Express-based Wildcat Realizm 800 graphics accelerator doubles raw geometry and fill-rate performance over any single processor graphics solution. Wildcat Realizm 800 has a total of 512-bit bus to 512 MB GDDR3 graphics memory. Wildcat Realizm 800 also integrates 128 MB of onboard DirectBurst memory to transparently store commands and geometry data for boosting geometry-intensive applications for an amazing total of 640 MB of onboard memory, delivering over 64 GB/second of total graphics memory bandwidth. Wildcat Realizm 800 powers through the Viewperf 7.1.1 UGS-03 benchmark with an unprecedented and unmatched score of greater than 80 frames per second making it the ultimate ultra high-end professional graphics solution. Wildcat Realizm 800 also drives two, dual-link DVI-I connectors and a stereo connector.

... You can't tell me that would *Totally* Suck in games.

Hey, there's finally a card available to drive the 30" Apple lcd cinema display!!! Now all I need is $1,100 for the card and probably another $3000 for the monitor!!!

Start savin, kiddies.

a 6800 modded into a quadro would score about 75% of that score... and set you back about 25% of the price...

or two 6800's in sli(assuming that is compatible with quadro, but i'd imagine it is since the quadro's have the sli connector too) would probably beat it.. maybe even by a considerable margin

get the Nvidia Quadro based on the 6800Ultra.... it has 512Mb of ram and would own any game, plus be a great workstation card. I think its the Quadro 4300?

Trying to game with one of those things..speed would be the least of your worries. Certain games have compatability problems with Ati/Nvidia cards, can you imagine what would happen with one of these monsters? :p

Lots of game would'nt run but the games that did would run quite well, albet not as well as duel 6800GT's.

Haha.. but that isn't what you asked.

Anywho... really, these cards aren't geared for gaming. The only thing it might be able to match with would be if you ran some D3 tests in Ultra Quality. Even then the frames would suck, they would just be more stable than any other popular card (because you wouldn't get texture loading lag).

I've done some benchmarking AND regular playing using the ATI Fire GL series cards. Playing Call of Duty on a 64meg TI4200 was a better exeperience than on the ATI Fire GL X1 (a 9700 Pro based card -- essentially with different drivers). Compare the ti4200 I got off of e-bay ($85) vs the price I paid new for the FireGL (~ $500) and you can probably understand why I was dissapointed (but I needed the FireGL for workstation graphics too, so it wasn't a stupid buy).

All I can say is that ATI's workstation drivers are not optimized for DirectX based first-person-shooters (duh, go figure). In this case, the FireGL X1 (128 Meg) stuttered often and had lower framerates compared to the liquid smooth gameplay (same settings) using the TI4200.

I've had comparable results using the FireGL Z1 (an 8500 based product).

I wouldn't purchase a workstation graphics card and expect it to perform as well or better than a typical high-end gamer's card.

Just my $.02. Your mileage may vary ;)

Wildcat cards have been out forever, they have ALWAYS been slower than gaming cars at gaming.

I remember building a HP Kayak worstation for a customer with a $2000 wildcat video card in it (back in 99) it got a worse framerate in CS than a TNT2.

But in AutoCAD with full AA on wireframe it kicked ass.

They are geared for a different use.

Notice how the Radeon 8500 is faster than these cards in Quake3.

Nvidia Quadro 4400 http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20040816/opengl-pcie-08.html

It will run games just as well as a 6800Ultra and actually it should be better.

Remember how people used to do the little bridge trick on geforces to turn them in to quadro's b/c basically everything is the same except for better OpenGL performance (and I believe a few more things are enabled).

Anyway, there's your 512MB card.... just bring your platinum card! B/c its going to be EXPENSIVE.

EXPENSIVE.

Would you agree that this is a speculative statement? Yes, the card out-specs the 6800 Ultra, but the drivers are a different issue. OpenGL will probably rock, but (in my humble experience) even though these workstation cards are DirectX compatible, DirectX performance in games is often dissapointing.

I mean that in a nice way, not inflammatory :)

Not really, a Quadro card turns on extra features to get a higher quality output, this will actually SLOW down gaming, (speed up CAD)

see: http://www.darkcrow.co.kr/review/Review_Content.asp?board_idx=165&contentpage=9
vs
http://www.darkcrow.co.kr/review/Review_Content.asp?board_idx=165&contentpage=6

See how the Quadro cards are significantly faster in Maya and SLOWER in Quake 3 (a openGL game)

Ok, maby it won't rule the Geforce 6800Ultra, but I'm pretty sure it's a lot better then Intels Integrated chipsets, and who knows the Wildcat Realizm 800 graphics card might be a lot better or worse then what we speculate, but the Wildcat is definitly the best workstation card, and definitly better then my old computers Geforce 4MX 440, it's probably even better then my 9550, but who knows in a couple of months maby someone will run a couple of benchmarks on them? Intell that all we can do is speculate.

Yeah the specs are great , but does anyone remember the XGI Volari V8?

no offense taken! :)

Yes, I'm speculating since the cards arent even out yet.

I'll just have to wire a switch to my Quadro 4400 when I get it so I can throw the jumper/bridge trick back & forth depending on what I'm doing. (gaming vs. CAD)
:) j/k

Its hard to believe what is usually the same exact core, drivers, etc.. can have that big of a performance difference! LIke on darkcrow.co shows.

Well it has to do with how it accomplishes a task: http://www.nvidia.com/object/quadro_geforce.html

Basically the Quadro ends up having to do more work than the GeForce in games, but in CAD applications that take advantage of those features, that extra work shows benifit.

what a peice of garbage that thing was... it would only run like 3 games of many that reveiwers would throw at it, and when it did run a game, it was comparable to a 9600... with two molex connectors :p
