I don't use case fan

My friend told me he has 10 fans in his case (not including cpu, video and power supply fans etc). I went to his home and saw it was. I told him he was absolutly a asshole.

To me, it is just waste of electricity and producing more noice. It might also shorten the life of the motherboard/power supply.

I'm using Celeron 2GHz@2.7Ghz and I don't use any case fan whatsoever. My CPU fan only runs 4200rpm. My power supply has a large and low-rpm fan in it, it's very quiet.

Even if my case is hot, 1 case fan is enough.

LOL yeah anyone with more than 1 fan is an inconsiderate asshole

If you wish to discuss your idea in any meaningful manner, might I suggest rethinking your post. As it is, it appears to be nothing more than a steaming pile of flamebait.

Nah. I used to think more was better...... but then I realized that if I'm running at 53c load at 1.85v, theres nothing I need to worry about.

Why make noise and waste power?

Proper case ventilation can be acheived with 1-2 fans and rarely requires much modding unless you buy a crappy case.

My box has a dull hum to it, not at all annoying or loud. You can't hear any one fan going, and there are only 4 total. 1 PS, 1CPU, 1 Northbridge and 1 case.

Not in the least bit worried about temps.

I think it really depends on what situation you're in. I have a few rigs in several locations, and I design them based upon where they will be... My main rig is in a room with two TV's and all of that, so I built it to be almost completely silent, (120mm PSU fan and a 1600 RPM CPU fan)... About 55 degrees C load.

However, my second rig has about 8 fans in it, all running full tilt, and it doesn't bother me at all because there is no TV/stereo/etc around, and with the fans my CPU temp drops ~20 degrees C from when the case fans are off.

So yeah, no one's an idiot for having fans, and they aren't idiots for NOT having fans. It depends on the person and the situation. Some people might not care about noise and want all out speed, others might want or need a completely silent PC and don't have the need for a 5 ghZ processor. ;)

To keep case temperature at a MINIMUM, I like to take advantage of the 18C room temperature. I use 5x 80mm Panaflo Lows. I think MrFace is going to like this thread :p

I have 5 case fans myself. One went out on me like 2 weeks ago and my CPU temp went up 3C because of it. I have 2 smart fans on order now to replace that one and to keep one on stand by in case another one goes out on me.
I know that even with the 3C raise in temp I am just fine. But I like to keep everything as cool as I can. It will only make things last longer and that to me is a good thing.

You have a lot of money invested into your computer. What is wrong with wanting to protect it and do what you can to get it to least as long as you can ?

I watched my bills when I first got this computer. I went from a old p166 HP computer to this custom one with all the bells and stuff in it. I also said wow that thing must one a lot more electricity than the old computer.
It went up about 3 bucks. That is right about 3 bucks a month as far as I could figure out. That is both the computer and going from a 15 inch monitor to a 19 inch one. I have since thing added a MX700 mouse and better speakers and a better video card (The video card in my sig will be here like Tues) so it might be a little higher now.
But for say 5 bucks a month to protect something I have about $3000 + into I think that is a OK thing to do.

PS.
I could be off a buck or two on that price but it is close. After living here for 4 years I know real close to what I pay each month and all.

i have 4 case fans myself. 4 x 80mm Blue LED.

Because the case came with 4 fan bays. (chieftech 601) So why not put fans in there? I mean if you have a good psw and the money, whats the big deal?

actually this guy is a bit of an idiot. your post is nothing more than a winddup.

u only need a few fans.
]
a blowhole at the top (if u want)

an exhaust fan at the back just under the PSU.

and intake fan on the front or 2 if your using li lan.

an exhaust fan on back of PSU.

an intake fan on bottom of PSU above the heatsink removing hot air.

and intake fan or vent on the front of the PSU.

then u got a videocard fan and of course your heatsink fan.

thats about 10. remember plan where the fans go to streamline the airflow not just slap in fans where ever u can.

yeah there alot of them. btw my post above?

u can't argue it. its the OFFICIAL guidelines for case colling/airflow.

removing as many drives bays as possible also helps.

The inanity lately has been rampant. We need intellectual baselines to have an account here.

I'm not even going to begin to explain the basic physics of thermo to the mindless masses. It's beyond pointless for those who make such obviously stupid claims.

With a fan running 4200rpm I don't really think your comp is anywhere near quiet. Also lower temps(more fans) LENGTHENS your components life, higher temps will kill it quicker. Perhaps a more passive approach than calling everyone with more than 1 fan an idiot would be good? I mean unless you are just trying to start flame wars.

owned:D

also, i have 5 case fans, 3 antec blue LEDs(color, another reason people buy more fans) smartfanI and a smartfanII

smartfan2 and an antec are in front for intake, anotehr antec on my side window to help cool my video card(air goes directly onto it), and smartfanI and another antec for exhaust

now the reason i have 5 case fans is because i think it makes my case look sexy:) , and also because in the summer it will get alot hotter than now in the winter(i have AC but my room gets hot anyway since its away from the AC)

my NB fan and my zalman are dead silent so i dont need to count those, two PSU fans which are also silent

Official guidelines? What makes them official? Also, for the original poster, how can having several fans shorten the life of the motherboard and power supply? Your friend is an asshole because he has ten fans in his computer? I applaud your efforts as an amateur physicist, but if you don't know what you are talking about then don't say anything. A lot of us have more powerful systems and require more powerful cooling. I also get the feeling that all these "opinion" threads that essentially say "I am right and everyone else is wrong" are flamebait, plain and simple. Either that or you are just trying to justify your inadequate system by saying anything more than that is unnecessary.

HAHAHAHA!

OK, I'm done. But I'm going to start laughing all over again if you ever go away on vacation and leave your computer running and your one fan shorts.
