if i buy an LCD monitor and its native resolution 1280x1024... i can still run my desktop and games at 1024x768 or lower if needed? i read that it downgrades quality of picture...
i only wanna do this cuz i wanna run dual monitors, otherwise il stick with my 19" huge ass CRT...
 
Yes, you can run it at resolutions below native, but the image quality does degrade, if even slightly. This is because on LCDs, every pixel has a fixed width and height, so when you change to a resolution that is not native, the LCD performs interpolation to scale to the new resolution.

So is this also true at higher(> native res.) resolutions?

Well, LCDs can't run higher than native resolution because of the fixed amount of pixels. You can interpolate down, you can't interpolate up.
 
ahh ok... i play most of my games at 10x7 or 12x10

so getting a monitor with 12x10 wont hurt

Another Con for LCDs. Will be getting a FPW900 24" Sony Monitor in the next 3 weeks or so.... :D

Another con for CRT's....that 24" will weigh about 150lbs and break small cheap desks like twigs, and be the downfall of pale and weak computer geeks everywhere.... :p Not too good to carry around to LAN parties.

But a nice display none the less, if it fits what YOU want....there is no right or wrong answer folks when it comes to displays...get what YOU need, what YOU want, and enjoy the damn things instead of nitpicking everything, there is NO perfection in ANYTHING man made ;)
