what do you guys think, will i get higher performance if i use the displayport input instead of dvi?

There should be no difference.

Right however display port will allow a much higher bandwidth and allow far more color support and it also streams audio if you have speakers.

Again you must have the display to support the added color capability.

So PersonalJ is right. They are nearly identical unless you meet other criteria.

I'm using a Geforce. I use the DVI port with an HDMI adapter and then run an HDMI cable to my monitor. It carries sound... so DVI ought to carry sound fine if your model of card supports it.

thanks.
now, why so many people say that displayport is the same as dvi? that there is no difference... people do not know what they are talking about... ;) :)

ROFL, what the hell are you guys talking about vividness of colour?

Digital Data is Digital Data, over DP or DVI 1920x1200 is going to be the same amount of pixels and bits, and look exactly the same.

I'm not sure were all of this info came from that you get better colour, but it's false...
Since you're not using it for Audio, there is no difference to you in the end, save your $ and keep your DVI cable.

Man, I hear that,

I was stuck needing the mini DP to DP cable to make eyefinity work. Of course I did not want to wait for shipping. Video Only, "Best Buy", Radio Shack, basically everywhere I went they stood there with their dumb mouths hanging open like I was from Mars. Guy at Best Buy actually told me there was no such thing.

as far as i can tell, dvi does not support xvYCC color space, while newer version of hdmi and DP do. So if you have a higher gamut screen (and it looks like you do) than DP can support a higher range of colors than dvi. one thing though

I'm not sure too sure about this, but i believe any non color managed programs will look oversaturated and show unaccurate colors, which is the majority of programs.

I'm pretty sure xvYCC is limited to TV use, high colour gamut monitors that use DVI only such as the 3007wfp-hc, and pretty much every other HCG monitors never list xvYCC.

Either way, DVI or DP will get your colours to look over saturated, unless you use SRGB Emulation.

There are a LOT of advantages to using display port over hdmi or dvi. While they both carry the same digital signal (dvi-d or dvi-i), DP supports multiple monitors with one cable (enough to power 4 1080p displays on one cable), is completely royalty free, has no signal degradation for 2 meters, and is a better choice for multi-directional, heavy bandwidth solutions like touch screens.

Will it look better than DVI? No. A digital signal is a digital signal. It will arrive with the same data that was delivered from the source in the same way with any cable that can support the bandwidth of the signal being sent.

i usually use the chipset drivers (amd) instead of manufacturer

u will notice a difference.

As far as FPS goes... it will only be better if the ATI card is better then your old card. How you connect the screen to the card has nothing to do with FPS.
