Well people rumored that the PC Toys CCL was the best red ccl made.. I bought 2x dual ccl's to check them out.. They came in this morning and.. I plugged it up and it was fucking pink? wtf.. Is it just my PSU lacking power? and the ccl's are not receiving the full power to become red or is it just a gay red ccl like 90% of them made.

Do i need a new PSU?!
 
You can't really get a red cold cathode, you will almost always get pink, your best bet is to keep them and to go buy some cheap red cellophane (sp?) I highly down it's your PSU.
 
Well I seen red CCL's and Every time i bought them they turn out to be pink. I posted a thread over 3 weeks ago and like 4 people recommended the pc toys.. What is this "sp" you speak of :eek:.. Thank god my 80mm led fans is actually RED :) Thats the only red lighting in my case I have :/
 
red tape or celophane will work...go to a car shop and gt the tape people put on the back of thir lights when they crack...
 
I just bought a pair of "Twin Neon 9" red ccfl's, and theyre AWSOME. Its a really nice, bright red. Yes, it is a ccfl not a neon, and it was $34 Canadian, and I got it at Canadian Tire.
 
PcToys has been getting some other brand lately and putting their labels on them. Can you post a a couple of pictures?

They also offer sunbeam cathodes in MGE packaging.

Im pretty pissed these things are pink...

I'd try to red tape method but that will dull the light out would it?


I know these aren't faulty cause i ordered 2x dual ccl kits and i tried both.. looking at the ccl tube and the cover that is red it looked like the lighting would be blood red and im overall disappointed and pissed.
 
i noticed that if i look at the actual ccfl it does look pink, but when i sit back and look at the case as a whole, it looks very red. try to hide the light somewhere where you can't really see it, then see what effect it has.
 
Done that, Its hidden and when I stand far away it makes the case look LIGHT pink either way.

I remember seeing those, and they were neon tubes, I'm 99% sure.
 
I have read this kind of complaint so many times that I have lost count, and it has nothing to do with the manufacturer of the CCFL. Every "red" CCFL I have seen, out of the box, was pink or orange, most were pink. The best thing I can suggest to you, has already been posted here in this thread. Go to your local auto parts store, and buy a roll of two inch wide brake lens repair tape. This should cost somewhere between 3 and 5 dollars. Cut a length of the tape as long as your CCFL is long, and wrap it around the CCFL lengthwise. Depending on how pink your CCFL is, you might want to wrap it a second time to get a better red. You will lose a slight bit of brightness, but the end result will be a true red CCFL.

I am glad this popped up. I just so happen to have a PCToys Red CCL someone gave me last year and didn't have a use for it until lately. (I'm not using it in a computer case, but for a portable light for use at night while I'm out doing Astronomy stuff. I attached a 8 AA battery pack to it which required rewiring of course.) I've been trying to find something to make it less pink and bright. Yay, now I know what I need!

HMM... I guess I'm the only one with a true red cathode ?

Mine has red stripes running down the side and I got it at frys for something like $12

i got one of them too. And i'm not sure... correct me if i'm wrong, but these are CL's, not CCL's. the difference being they put out some heat. not much, but some.

i could be seriously wrong and there is no such thing as CL's... but the box said cathode light, and the one next to it (more expensive) said cold cathode.

EDIT:

oh, and they arent blood red like i'd like. they're pink. i'm off to the auto parts store now.

I bought mine RED CCFLS from case-mod.com (http://www.case-mod.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=26_62&products_id=412) they only have the 6" version in stock but they are very red and bright.

I bought 2 CCL's from CompUSSR and one of them was pink, so I took it back and got the same color as my other one, a dark orange-ish red. :D
