How do you guys cool your room? The ac in the house is useless. When I am running 4 monitors a laptop and a gaming PC all in my room accompanied with active speakers and a receiver, my room gets insanely hot. I have the window open , ceiling fan at max and a double honwell turboforce fan by the window trying to suck outside air in, and it is still not enough. I am thinking about getting a portable ac unit or something just for my room because this is ridiculous...
 
Turn off some of your electronics and get a real AC unit.

When I was posting the thread my video card was exhausting most of the heat out of my computer. It is cooking in there also, so I thought people who do heavy gaming using double or triple video card setups would know more about this since they are probably more prone to experiencing it than the lets say an audiophile in these forums. That's why I posted it in the video card forum.
 
How big is your room? You can actually find some good deals online on A/C units in the winter. I got a nice GE model for a 23x22' room a few years ago for $115 shipped. It only took about an hour before it was so cold in the room that I had to turn it off.

But for me in Florida...
You need to remove air not intake air into your room :eek:

Set up a chain of fans that aim all the hot air towards a window encompassing boxfan that is blowing outside

ceiling fan is just swirling the hot air around you
 
You need to get the heat out. AC window unit, water cooling with radiator outside, relocate computer to another room with cables feeding through the wall, or something.

I grew up in St. Pete so its nothing new for me. A window A/C can be set to circulate the air inside, or pull air from outside. They are very efficient and great for cooling a couple rooms at a time. You could find a unit that stops at a certain temperature and keep your ceiling fan on low to get more efficiency out of the cooled air.
 
I had the same issue and sold my computer cuz my rents wouldn't let me buy a portable ac unit for my room and I'm still hot and it's 40 degrees outside Atleast I can open my window now :/
 
Get some aluminum tubing and exhaust it out your window if your room is that small that it cant cope with the heat , only downside neighbors may think your running a grow op lol.
 
I was considering a portable ac unit, I just hope that they don't increase the electric bill by a huge amount.
 
I have that problem with my PC. Will heat up the room really fast. I live in Georgia and rent a room. Early this year I was renting from a korean couple that would NOT turn on their AC. Room peaked at about 100+ F. I woulda got a window AC but it woulda tripped the breaker.

Fans will help a little, in my experience a ceiling fan and floor fan will drop the temp a tad bit. I don't like blowing air in via regular fans in the window. Way too much dust. It's better just to have your room door open so that the air can flow out of your room to the rest of the house. Have the fan sitting by the door and blowing air OUT of your room.

A window AC unit is horribly inefficient and you'll notice it on your power bill. But it's a small price to pay for not sweating your ass off all day.

Bullshit. The current AC window units are VERY efficient. I noticed a $10 difference a month in my power bill and I used it every day. Unless you are using some piece of crap from the 80s, they don't use a ton of power.

I live in fl and our central ac sucks. I used to exhaust the air outside which helped alot more than trying to force it out of the room and into a hallway. Then I did some research on window ac's and found out they don't use that much power. Now I have a cool gaming environment and it actually helped pick up the slack form the central ac. Actually saving more money on electric now because I used to set the ac lower just to try to get 1 room cooler.
 
i just open my window, put a box fan in it and open my door to the room and the sliding door in the living room stays open 24/7 anyways.. my room stays a nice 78-80 degrees during the summer and a nice 80 degrees during the winter when i close the window.
 
I'm glad I have central ac and never have to worry about being in any temp but 72F winter or summer :) the joys of technology. But I also bought a 12,000 btu by lg this summer when central air was being repaired and it cooled down the entire house only issue I have with window ac is they get the rooms too cold due to digital temp monitor suck compare to a real thermostat. Eitherway get your self s window ac they you can cry it's too cold :)
 
I have a window unit and I can't stand it. It works well, but it is ugly as shit and it takes up one of my windows.
 
$20 per month is not a big deal, I would even pay $40 per month extra to have a nice cool room all the time.Window ac is not possible since the owner would not let me put one up on the window... :(
 
Personally i'd tell the owner to fuck his self if he said I couldn't run a window air unit, it does nothing to physically modify his property. Deal with it bitch! :)
 
Dude, the HOA is against it supposedly. All the buildings needs to look the same.

Check out your central A/C. It might be something simple like the fan not cooling the compressor or you need to change air filters.
 
Yea you need to move. Isn't it getting colder now? You'll probably be appreciating the heat in December/January.

Hahah no dude that was not me. But I am probably going to add a 30inch IPS and another 6970 and remove a 27 inch, raising the temps even more. I guess I am going to have to spend some money and get a nice portable ac unit.

If you have a powerful enough PC and multiple huge monitors heating up a room that I'm sure you spent a pretty penny on then that little bit each money should NOT be a big deal. You don't want extra heat, don't spend money on GPUs and monitors and all that...
