Finally decided to register to ask this question. I have a non-k i7 that I overclocked to 4.3 ghz, but it doesn't stay there for every program. I noticed this because I have been messing around with my RAM timings, etc.
According to cpu-z the multiplier only jumps up to 41 when using prime 95, but using maxxmem, and the windows benchmark (the winsat mem thingy) cpu-z reads the multiplier at 43. So is this a bug on cpu-z, my bios, or is this dependent on the program being used?
My specs
i7-3770
Mobo MSi Z77A-G43
G.Skill Ripjaws X F3-12800CL9Q-16GBXL running at 1866
Windows 7 home premium
1 500g. hdd and 1 terabyte hdd
HD 6750
Xigmatek Darkknight 2 for the heatsink on cpu
I have a feeling most of the guys here are running the k edition, but I was trying to save some money, and not really looking to oc my cpu to an extreme amount. I also can't touch the FSB at all (won't boot up) which is lame, because I was hoping to oc my memory that way. Worked well on my old i3-530.
To get back to my original question, would flashing my bios to the newest version keep it up at 4.3 on ALL programs, or is this something I have to just try and see? Hoping somebody else went the same path I did.
Thanks for reading,
