Posting from my phone so i dont have tons of info. Ive never used a ssd before so maybe im missing something.

Originally i installed it and it was doing okay but nowhere near specs. Its supposed to be up to 510 mbs. Im seeing 350s usually. I realised it was set to ide in the bios. So i changed that and saw ot spike to 410 mbs. Still nowhere near what it should be. Fresh install, every tip and trick ive seen ive tried. Ive reinstalled the os 4 times now.

I play WoW on it and my buddy loads in to dungeons just as fast as i do with my ssd. Just rather frusterating.

Fx 4100 on asrock 870 fx mobo. 4 gig of ram. Hd 6870 gpu.

Thoughts? Not seeing the amazing performance coming from an old mechanical on IDE. Yes, ide.
 
I dont see that CPU on the mobo's supported list. There would usually be a BIOS update for it.
 
There was and it is updated. I bought a cpu just to flash the bios and took it back.

How many sata ports you have? They all Sata 6? Any on a controller and not on the chipset?

Your board manual

It's SATA3, which is 6 Gbit/s -> 600 MB/s)

I'm seeing that your board has 8x SATA 3 (6Gb/s connectors). 6 below your IDE connector and an additional 2 underneath your bottom PCIE slot.

The rear eSATA port is linked to SATA3_8 (Bottom left below PCIE slot)

After switching to ACHI it looks like you did perform a clean install, good. Assuming you installed most current chipset drivers from manufacturer? Updating the firmware on the SSD may be worth while...

Ssd has no updates. Is the sata3 going to hinder my drive? If i swap ports do i need to reinstall my os again?
 
It's on the Sata 1 port right now. Stack of six its on the bottom row, top one. if that makes sense.

SATA revision 3.0 = 6 Gbit/s = 600 MB/s. It will not hinder your drive.

No, you do not need to reinstall your OS when switching SATA3 ports.
 
Well i guess its on the right port anyways so i do not need to swap it. Still trying to figure out why its reading at 350-380 when max speed is 510. I should at least see 450s right? Testing on 3 benchmarks. Crystal says 380. Hdtune has me at 280. Something is clearly askew. Should i return it and try another one?

You're not too far off the benchmarks. Real-world performance difference between 350-450 is negligible.

Yeah but all.my benchmarks are on a fresh system, nothing installed only benchmark programs. Still only broke 400 once. Usually 350s.kind of disappointing when its working half speed of advertised.

My max is usually less than that bench you posted.

I just ran Hdtune and my scores were:

Minimum: 206.8
Maximum: 335.9
Average: 268.7

Access time: 0.2 ms
Burst Rate: 195.3 MB/s
CPU Usage: 8%

Just way way under what it should be. Getting frusterated. It's clearly working. My phone shop opens in ~3 seconds. My computer goes from clicking on to Windows fully loaded in about 10 seconds. I'm happy with it. I just want to get all I can out of it. Wondering why I'm not seeing any speeds near advertised.
 
The 400+ MB/s is not what you should care about since it should be rare that you are reading or writing large files sequentially. What is more important is 4K low queue depth and IOPS.

Yes, the maximum throughput for SATA 6Gbps is 600MB/sec due to the 8b/10b encoding.

But WinSome did write it a little more misleadingly than it needs to be, since an equation "6 Gbit/s = 600 MB/s" is obviously false. It would be better to write it something like 6 Gbit/s -> 600 MB/s (or just put the 6Gbps as part of the SATA name as I did above).

Try ATTO Disk Benchmark. Most, if not all, companies use that to advertise their drive speeds.

You are correct, my equation is misleading!!!

6 Gbit/s -> 600 MB/s makes more sense.
