HyperTransport voltage

My bios has options for HyperTransport voltage. I hit a barrier of overclocking due to quirkiness with the motherboard at 260mhz HTT. Increasing the vcc12_HT voltage to +.02 makes it 100% stable.

What exactly does the voltage do? What are the adverse affects of raising it?

EDIT: I'd still like to know what it does but my boot quirkiness remains. Is there something magical that happens at 260HTT because thats where problems start. I'm pretty sure its not the processor.

EDIT AGAIN: It seems that changing the multiplier from "Default" to "9" has taken care of the boot quirkiness at HTT > 260, even theough the default multiplier is 9. Does that make sense to anybody else? I lowered teh vcc12_HT back down to normal....
