Hyper-V server RDP Acting slow glitchy

I got my 2008r2 server running and i have 1 virtual server inside. I can rdp to it just fine but when i do things, there is a slight pause between every thing i do, almost like a delay clicking the start menue brining up items programs etc etc it's driving me nuts! Iv'e tried everything to figure this out.

I can remote from my mac using the microsoft rdp client and it doesn't do it, but if i use any windows based computers it has the slight pause, its very hard to do any thing at all in a timely matter.

Any one ever heard of this ?

What OS is the Virtual, does it act this way when connecting via the hyper-v management interface on the host server?

They are both 2008r2, one is the host for the machine, and the other is the virtual server, both activated and both legit.

When i rdp to the host it's perfect no pauses or problems.

Hmm..2008 r2 already contains the integration pack so that's not it. When you access the Virtual machine via the Hyper-V manager..how does it respond? How is your virtual switch network setup?

it act's perfectly like it should through rdp LOL i tried that and i was like WTF why is it not working through rdp like this.

my virtual switch ? Is that the virtual connection in ( network connections ? )

Are you dedicating a physical nic to the VM and assigning that in the Virtual Switch or are you using 1 physical nic for both the host and the VM?

1 NIC, for both host & vm.

Its a on board braud com gigabit NIC.

My new Server board that i will be using in a month ish, has dual intel g-bit NIC's so maybe thats the issue ? im taxing the onboard ( crappy NIC ) ?

I don't have to have a NIC per vm do I ?

Out of curiosity, what sort of disk array are you using?

it's just 2 500 gig hard drives mirrored through windows 2008 server.

I right clicked in disk management and it asked if i wanted to mirror the drives, so i did.

it's working so far...

I could try moving the vm to the c: of the server ? and try to rdp but i can't see that being the issue.

Not really...for what you're doing, you're only hosting one VM right now. If you were to add more VM's then certianly dedicate a physical nic for virtuals.

Hyper-V, by default installs a Emulated NIC on the VM. You could try to install a Synthetic NIC within the Hyper-V Mangement Console, see if that helps, doubtful, but worth a shot.

right now im all about learning and giving things a try.

My new server board is nice, it has dual g-bit Intel NIC's and i will most likely plug in both cards to do load balancing. At a max i think ill be running 4-5 vm's only for playing and learning with.

WHAT IS really weird, is if i rdp from my mac with a mac client to this vm it runs PERFECTLY no glitches or pauses or sluggish....

Humm...

Perhaps it's the PC that you're connecting from, have you tried another Win box?

Ive tried many pc's when i try to rdp from my mac it works great, when i boot to windows 7 on the mac it doesn't run good.

for shit's and giggles, i installed a OLD dlink 530 pci NIC and told my server inside hyper v to use the dlink for network activities, well it's working :) I am going to assume that it's my on-board network card is either taxed out ? OR shit card !

Can't wait to get my actual Xeon box working properly!

I might just head up some ebay auctions and buy a few pci dual g-bit nic's one for my untangle firewall, and one extra one for my server.

You should have used wireshark on the VM to see if you saw a lot of resends or anything like that. I've seen issues like what you're talking about when the card is trying to do some offloading that the underlying hardware doesn't support.

Yeah i could still try it, but i think the onboard card is fawked, it keeps going on and off :(

Make sure you pick up some Intel cards. Pretty much everything else is shit.

It's in the network adapter properties page under the advanced tab. Just disable anything that says anything about offload. Leave these settings turned on once you get some intel cards.

Did This, will test tomorrow :) thanks
