A new client contacted me having issues with some old database program. They had some servers in the basement but said they were not being used since someone put in a WHS.. This old IBM server was powered on but no input, so I reset it to find a raid array in critical state, but once it booted up the database program was working again. Seeing that this machine is on its last leg, I think it would be a good idea to do a P2V and put it onto some new hardware.

The Server 2003 is Dynamic Disk and has 2 partition - C and D.

I have tried to to a Disk2VHD and didn't work. Getting Disk Rear Error, Press Control Alt Delete.

Any ideas?
 
try vmware standalone converter. are you moving them to an esxi environment? or other?
 
no. That being said, I expect your failed RAID array is causing an unrecoverable read error :(
 
What's odd is after digging into the server more. Looks like the server had/has 2 seperate raid arrays. One is completely failed. I believe this had some data on it that went to the WHS. Current array says operational and has the 2 partitions.

Currently tried taking an acronis image maybe can restore it to a blank disk

From what i have read its hard to p2v scsi drives?

Some say to add an IDE controller but not following
 
It shouldn't be - most of the conversion software is designed for scsi devices as that's what all the hypervisors use for "guest" devices.

You sure it's not trying to read the bad one? I might deactivate it and try again.
 
Well Windows is only seeing a c and d Parton which has what I need

Any tools to do this prior to windows loading?
 
Yeah, you'll have to go into the RAID card bios and offline the failed array - unless it's software raid?
 
I think the issue is that they are Dynamic Disks.

Will try to go into the raid configuration and disable.
 
So confirmed,

Raid Array A - 2 x 73GB SCSI - 1 Drive Failed - C Parition
Raid Array B - 2 x 73GB SCSI - Fine - D Partition
