Hello all...


I'm trying to learn how to use Hyper-V Server, and things are going back n forth here...


I'm running Hyper-V Server 2008, fully updated.

My system I'm trying to manage it with is Win 7 Pro x64



I'd like to say first, I've been able to successfully connect 2 times, 1 time creating a VM (no OS or anything just creating the machine so I could start)


The biggest problem is other then those 2 times, I keep getting a RPC Service error. I've obviously got things setup right? if I was able to connect at some point.

I'm not trying to connect remotely or anything, the system is on the same network, no other subnets, nothing in between besides my netgear switch...


Are there any things I should check that could cause this random issue?

I've got an Intel 1000 GT as a network adapter, set the ip as 192.168.1.111, my IP is 192.168.1.100

I used HVRemote script config utility to everything up and open firewall access and whatnot for my system.

I'd really like to get past this so I can learn more about Hyper-V



PS, I can RDP in but very limited on what I can do there, Hyper-V manager from another system is the ONLY way to manage Hyper-V Server
 
update:

today i was able to connect again... got the vm os installed then later in the day was getting the error again.


i did read a couple places where they said HV is hard to manage in a workgroup enviroment... whi+h i guess is my problem... i dont have anything i can run to create a domain for it to run on.

Are you trying to run just the hyper-V shell server or are you running server 2008 and then hyper V within that? I run all my hyper-v boxes as Server 2008R2 standard and then run the guest oses out of the GUI manager as it s much easier to setup stuff that way.

Also how are you connecting to the server? SSH, Telnet, RDP?
 
im running just the shell, and i just RDP in ffor ccommand line stuff.

since im working on a non existant budget...


hyper-v shell server is free... and i, tho unsupported, have xp home installed on the one vm i was able to create and it worked fine as long as i could actually connect lol
