Hi everyone, about to pull the trigger on a new build but i'm hung up on if i'm going to be underpowered or overpowered with my choice of CPU

I'm planning on building a system that will serve primarily as a file server.

As follows

2008R2 w/ HyperV as host
1 VM - WHS for Storage -- at the moment(but may eventually move to freenas),
1 VM - Windows 7 - For My services -- download, ftp, mysql(for my xbmc), and some other random things

Thats all i plan on running currently, maybe add 1 floating VM with a linux distro for testing or mucking around.

I was planning on buying an x3440 but im begining to wonder if that is overboard for the needs. Saving money is always nice :)

Would an i3-540 be ok to power the above? or would i be shooting myself in the foot?
Will be running 8gb of ram

I'm running hyperv on a 2008r2 box with 2 vm's inside 4 gigs ram and a p4 dual core 3.0 and it's fast, not sluggish at all!
