Hyper TX3 G34 Mod?

So I'm in the process of putting together a 4p, I ordered my SM mobo, my crucial RAM, a nice Antec PSU, and a couple of those PCIe -> EPS converters (do I really need both of them?) and I've come to a stopping point on my cooling solution for a set of 6128s.

The normal CM refurb deal is sold out (much to my dismay) but they have some Hyper TX3 coolers there as well. I saw someone was selling a set of them modded to work with 6128s a while back and I PMed him to see what mods were necessary, but as he hasn't been on for a week or so I wanted to ask the community as a whole before this great deal (8 bucks per cooler) escapes me, if it would work. So what would I need to do to get a set of CM Hyper TX3s working on the G34 socket? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Note - I don't know how often the 212+'s get back in stock so if they get more every few weeks and its consistent, great that's useful information! I also realize that I am once again asking questions about doing a 4p for cheap, yup I'm cheap, and if that means I can save a few bucks on a cooler I will, but I'm smart about it, I don't want something that's going to break my rig, I'm just looking to see if this is feasible and if so how hard before I outlay cash. Thanks!

The price difference between the TX3 and Hyper 212+ is not that big. Why are you interested in the TX3s? Always go for the bigger fans - more airflow with less noise.

There's no prediction on when Cooler Master will again offer their refurb specials. I guess it's just a matter of when they collect a sufficient volume of seconds (minor flaws) from the factory.

I know you're on a budget, but don't skimp and get 92mm fan-based coolers.

What Linden said, I've had smaller 92mm based towers and such, just not the same cooling as a 120 or 140 based unit, it's worth the price diff, and it's not much, hell sometimes the 120-140's are cheaper lol

The reason I'm looking at the TX3 is because they are 8 bucks refurbished on cooler masters site, whereas the 212's are sold out at that rate, I figured it is a 130W cooler so it should be able to handle the thermal load and as I said I'm on a budget.

Regardless of my rationale, I've got some time before I need to order my fans so I will continue to look for a 120 solution, but I would appreciate and info if this is even possible.

Finally is the musky mod a method of install or is it an actual hardware device? thanks!

The musky mount is a method and will not be able to be used with the TX3. They have a high ridge in the middle of the base. Plus they are smaller than the 212+ HSs.

Take my advise, spend the extra couple of bucks now and do it the right way. There is no point in doing several wrong solutions first. Just more expensive and time consuming the in the long run. I have done that more times than I can count :(

musky's method includes hardware from local hardware stores (IIRC), its mainly a method of install to get the 212's to play nice with the G34 socket :D

Got back on my computer now so could look at links, Thanks for the geek.com link to the Evo, I backed up one and they were selling the refurb 212+s for 13 bucks so I ended up getting 4 of them. I wasn't trying to be difficult I just wanted to make it work and I didn't want to spend a crap ton doing it. So I searched for Musky mod on the forums and all I got was some pictures of what to cut on the bracket, am I missing something? Is it hosted somewhere else? Any help would be appreciated!

I use 2 Hyper TX3 in my 2P 6272, they work ok since my 4u Chenbro chassis won't able to close the lid if I use bigger heatsinks.
All I did was turn the plastic socket retainer 180 degree, so the lips toward inside of socket. It is not very secure but I don't have time to fix it yet, I am in middle of 3 month team race.
