I just popped on a Cooler Master Hyper TX on my E4300, but things are not much cooler! In fact, idle temps are higher than before (but I know not to put much stock in idle temps, and focus on load).
Things I've ruled out:
Possible theory: My temps are too low with no OC for the HSF to make a big impact
This goes back to the TjMax discrepancy and DTS accuracy issue that has been discussed to great lengths on this forum. Even at load, neither my stock Intel cooler nor the base/heatpipes of the Hyper TX are feeling even warm under full load. (In comparison, my NB heatsink/heatpipes feel pretty warm). I already know not to trust the absolute temps reported for C2Ds and that I should just use the numbers for comparison. Would it be possible that my processor has a lower TjMax than usama_ah's, and that my temps are simply not high enough for a better HSF to make a large impact until I OC? (60-15=45).
Things I've ruled out:
- Applying Ceramique correctly. Have reseated and my old application looked fine too.
- Processor and heatsink base are both "flat" (that is, not concave or convex. The Hyper TX does look liike it could use some lapping...)
- All four push-pins are inserted correctly
- Case airflow is fine. I can stick my hand in and feel the cool air coming from my front fans.
