Hyper-Threading & Performance Monitor

I have a server running dual Xeons with Hyperthreading and have noticed that it has been very sluggish recently. I was hoping to track the processor utilization with the performance monitor included with windows. The numbers I came back with were lower than I think should be correct, as it gives me around 23% as an average for a typical work day. I am using the \\Processor(Total)\%Processor Time counter to track. Does anyone know if there is a way to see how much each physical processor is being taxed without turning off Hyper-Threading?
 
many viruses / worms, etc.... most people complain that their system has been running slower as the # 1 complaint.

Also, are you using Norton AV ? b/c its a system resource hog, too!

So if its not the viruses, hogging your resources!!! Its the ANTI-VIRUSES!?

Isn't it just a pisser! We need mandatory castration sentences for Virus writers.

Found this article regarding Hyper-Threading being slower. I remember when my brother was shopping for a computer the idea of Hyper-Threading was still new (June 2003) so I tried to do some research for him. Alot of what I ready stated how HT never did much to increase performance in programs. In some instances it slowed down compared to a normal P4. So when he purchased his computer I suggested he disable it.

Don't know if my comment has any help to your question but its stateworthy
 
It CAN SLIGHTLY slow down some single threaded programs, like a few games or gaming benchmarks.

Like 3dMark2001 does better when you disable HT.

But for general computer usage with multiple programs running (multitasking), etc... its much better to have on.

The net benefit is much better with it on than the MINOR performance hit on a few independent tasks, b/c most people always have multiple programs running.

Plus more and more programs will start to become multi-threaded as dual core processors (& P4 w HT) become the standard.
 
In this case I don't believe it is a virus. The system is patched within the last week, and runs Norton AntiVirus corporate. The AntiVirus isn't using all that much by in the way of system resources. I think I saw the problem however. We have 4GB of RAM on this thing, but we seem to be paging between 3-4GB at any given time. I have less than 400 MB of physical memory open. So thanks for the help anyway.

windows (usnig NT core derivatives) pages nearly everything that it has in system RAM to disk also, doesn't it?
