Long story short my primary system died and while I figure out what exactly went wrong and how best to resurrect it I have brought my backup system online.
I have a P5Q Pro Turbo LGA775 MB modified and patched to handle a Xeon 5470 which I have OC'd to a stable 4.1 ghz. Sitting on top of that chip is a
Cooler-Master-Hyper-N520.
It still works well. High 40's at idle. Low 80's at sustained load. The issue is that the CPU fans are LOUD. Annoyingly so. I never expected to have to use this system for an extended period of time.
So . . .
Should I replace the fans? and if so please make suggestions (92mm PWM and it is a push pull configuration)
or
Just replace the whole thing with a Hyper 212 EVO (or something else i am open to suggestions) since the cost difference is negligible.
Ground rules are I want to contain spending as much as possible since it is only ever going to be a backup system.
Side note: Spending $50 on the x5470 turned out to be a great decision in retrospect. I had originally done it just for yucks.
