Just upgraded my cpu(from 7750 to 720), and decided to put a second fan in. Now it might be my application of AC5, was using the thermal pad that came with the cooler before, but I noticed a significant temp drop.
Before:
Idle: Mid 30s (33-37C)
Load: High 40s, Low 50s (never past 53C)
Now:
Idle: Low 20s (20-22C)
Load: low to mid 30s

So, which deserves the praise? AC5 or the 2nd fan? I'm sure its a bit of both, but what had the greater effect?
 
Are the before temps with the 720 as well? If not, its the CPU that made most the difference. You went from a 65nm CPU to a 45nm CPU.

Oh, forgot about the die. Good call. I was curious since I couldn't find any specs with both fans installed.
 
Are you sure your temp reading program has the right offsets? Idle temps in the 20's aren't realistic.
 
Everest, speed fan, and AOC read the same. (+/-1C)
CPU: 19-21C
Core 1-3: 19.8-20.5C

Going to look at the Bios readings again tomorrow, but I recall them being about the same. Also, ambient temp is 21C/70F if that matters.
 
BIOS is not always correct. And I doubt if it is giving you readings on the individual cores.
 
Amd Overdrive gives me the same temps, with individual core readings. Just want to make sure before adding any offset.
 
In that case, I'm not sure what to think. Either way, even 10C higher would put you at 40-ish load temps which is still great.
 
His temps seem right on the money. PHIIs run barely over ambeint. Just because his room temps are 21C doesnt mean its exactly the same around his PC. If its say 19C around his pc, then 20-21C idle is normal. They run a lot cooler at idle then most other CPUs, and way cooler then Intel stuff.
The reportings are +-2C or so, but close enough.

Idle temps mean nothing though, average temps and load temps are what matters. Use hwmonitor to keep track of them doing normal stuff and see how high they get (it keeps track), then run Prime95 for a few hours to see your max load temps.
