I've been looking at different pumps for water cooling and like the looks of the Hydor Seltz pumps. These pumps are actually aquarium pumps if I understand correctly, so my friend and I looked around and found the Hydor Seltz L45 - it pumps out 925gph, or 3500lph - for only $61.99 (http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=HD10202&ast=&key=) . Ive got a couple of questions:

1) How much does having a higher gph/lph really benefit the cooling?
2) This high rate of flow is going to put a lot of pressure on all of the water blocks...is it even feasible, or am i going to break everything?

Oh, if it would work, im planning to run 1/2" tubing.

Thanks for your input.

1) Being able to push a higher lph will always improve cooling.
2) High rate of flow does not equal high pressure. The L45 only has 8.75 feet of head. Pus it has a heat dump close to 50 watts. You would be better served with a D5, DDC, or a AQ50Z...

I realize that the AQ50z has a high pressure, and can stand a lot of head, but will it really have to withstand a lot of backpressure running through my system?

Maybe I should mention what I am planning to do isnt easy.

Im putting all of this in a Qpack. Its only going to have to run through a 5 1/4 resivour, cpu, gpu, and a radiator. ...And I really want to do 1/2" tubing, but thats looking close to out of the question.

Take a look in the Post your watr cooling rig pics, last page. There is a setup in a Qpack.
Backpressure is null and void. Nothing to worry about...

so would i need a pump that pushes more feet of head, or will the l45 work ok.

Im just trying to compare the advantages/disadvantages of this pump. I know it draws a good amount of power and generates some heat, but it also pumps 925gph.

What is your reasoning behind recommending the other pumps over the l45?

It will NOT push 925gph through a water cooling loop. 925gph is at zero head. Do a little research. Check out Systemcooling.com, they have good reviews of pumps.

I have used eight different pumps in my systems. Aquarium pumps are decent but not the best for pc setups.

Since this is for a Qpack is the water cooling external???

nope, its gonna be all internal. (yeah, i want a challenge.) I know that under pressure the pump will push less gph, but I dont think it will be under that much pressure, and certainly not enough head to bring it down to anything near what the aq50z pushes. then again, what do i know.

That's why I said do some research.

I have this pump but i cracked where the front fitting goes and cant find a replacement. but from my expericance i was running 1/2in od tubbing at the time and cooling cpu, NB,gpu on my old intel setup. it took like forever to bleed the bubbles out since the water was flowing so DAMN FAST!. but i think it was a waist because the pump is pretty damn big compared to a L30 pump. also it puts out some good heat from the pump so i saw increase in temps compaired to a L30. but maybe if u put the pump under water and put ice in the bucket or somthing it will help. but id stick with a danger den d4 or d5 im about toi test my new d4 pump out.
