Hey. I have 5 years old HX620 and for the first time in year i decided to oc my system.

Here is my system:

2500K
Extreme 4 gen 3
8800GTs(gtx680 direct cu top coming)
2x4GB 1600mhz
128GB M4
4 sata hdd's
optical drive etc.

so i have been running prime95 for few hours now and my 2500k is set to 4,4ghz. AXTU shows that all my lines are low:

12V = 11.933V
5V = 4.872V
3.3V = 3.248V

Those are pretty bad numbers huh? And what happens when i add GTX 680 :O

So would AX760 be good choice for me? And are HX620 cables compatible with new AX series :confused:

don't trust too much in Software readings of votlage, take a cheap multimeter and test the rails manually just to be sure.. its your PSU the 3 12V rails version?..

Im not sure is is 3 or single? Yeah i guess readings softwares are not 100% accurate.

But do you think i would be safer with ax760 or like EVGA 750W?

it would be practically the same if your actual PSU its in good conditions.. as even with the gtx 680 you will be far to pull more than 500W so still safe zone taking into consideration capacitor aging.. with a newer your PSU will be more efficient but that's all..

I'm fairly sure that if you set your system back to stock and run the tests again, the voltages would read the exact same thing.

OCCT reads my 12v line as 8.8 volts. I'm fairly sure my system wouldn't even boot if my 12v line was at 8.8 volts.

You have a well-made PSU, OP. It may be old, but it's a quality unit. I would be confident in recommending that you plug the 680 in and not worry about anything.

Now, if you are itching for an upgrade... that's another matter. :)

Thanks for the answers :) I might grap AX760 though ;) If i do that, will the cables be compatible?

Compatible? All PSUs have all the necessary cables to power your system, you will not have compatibility issues. ;)

Personally I would never trust software to tell me the voltage on my rails. Software is wrong more often than not. I would use a multimeter to check them before I got worried.

The HX620 was a nice PSU, and likely has held up well over the years.

Of these, the AX is a MUCH better unit. I run a AX850 from 2+ years ago, and have never had a single issue. They can be pricey though.

Yeah i mean can i plug HX620 modular cables to AX760? Would save me from a lot of trouble if i wouldt have to manage all the cables again :p

i can't remember from the oldie HX620 but probably yes, my cables (HX-850) are all compatible with all the corsair modular units.. even with some of the other brands.. so probably yes..

!!:eek::eek: Mate are you serious?
You will get a brand new -200$ value PSU-, and you will use the old cables? :eek:
When you asked for compatibility i thought you were asking if the new PSU would be compatible with the rest of the hardware !!

Well yeah, those sata cables looks identical :p

I just don't understand the reason. It will take you 5 more minutes to put the new cables :confused:

with a messy case yes, if he have a tidy cable management with zip ties and etc it would take a good time to change..

Corsair's vendors have changed the pinouts on their modular units over the years. I would check the pinouts first, contact Corsiar, or just use the cables that come with the power supply.

You were asking for a lot of trouble doing that, you somehow have gotten lucky and not blown anything up. HX cables are NOT compatible with AX cables.

depending in the generation of the PSU the cables are indeed compatibles.. (i asked directly to corsair before try =D)

in fact in the Corsair Page Professional Individually sleeved DC Cable Kit, Type 3 (Generation 2) they mention the compatibility units as:
Corsair PSU Compatibility:

AXI Series – 1500/1200/860/760
AX Series – 860/760
HX Series – 1050/850/750/650
HXi Series – 1000/850/750
TXM Series – 850/750/650/550
CXM Series – 750/600/500/430
RM Series – 1000/850/750/650/550/450

Yep... and they specifically do not mention the AX x50 as compatible with the HX PSUs. If you verify compatibility prior to use, it's fine. But if you don't, that's just asking for trouble.
