Hi, do you think an i5, 5870 and a 9800gt (physX) can be power'd by a hx520?
or a 9800gt green edition from xfx

This is a build in the planning stages, I know that a 5870 will be fine, but can the hx520 support a 9800gt as well?
I'm thinking of getting a 9800gt first (or green edition) then savin' up for a 5870 (or a gtx3xx series)

Well if you take a look at The [H] review of the 5870.

The total system wattage for an I7 overclock to 3.6 is 383w, 391 with GPU overclocked as well.

So having a I5 will save you some wattage there.

I cant find any hard numbers (that aren't total system wattage on a 9800gt) but it doesn't seem much. I think the PSU could handle it, as long as your rails are good enough.

I am a noob when it comes to multi-GPU systems... but on the Nvidia website it says:

Can I use an NVIDIA GPU as a PhysX processor and a non-NVIDIA GPU for regular display graphics?
No. There are multiple technical connections between PhysX processing and graphics that require tight collaboration between the two technologies. To deliver a good experience for users, NVIDIA PhysX technology has been fully verified and enabled using only NVIDIA GPUs for graphics.

So before buying cards from Nvidia and AMD to have them work together I would look into this carefully...

Windows 7 can make accomodations for both the nVidia and ATI drivers at the same time which allows you to run PhysX on your ATI card.

Actually, nVidia disabled PhysX support in their drivers when an ATI card is used as the main display adapter. It's possible to get it working with some hacks apparently, but it isn't properly supported.

Discussion within the physics processing board has linked to noqh (I think thats how its spelt) that had a patch to patch a 190.xxx drivers to accomodate ati graphics cards.

Link. There are other links on the page worth a visit. More discussion on the link's links.

From what I remember the [H] reviews read power from the wall, and if that's the case you'll be plenty fine with a 520HX.

The 520hx is plenty.

It can effectively delivers 520W after the 80% efficiency is applied. It is very similar to the 620hx and push out identical numbers but I can't seem to find any reviews of the 520hx being push to the limit of the 620hx.

The HX520 is not identical to the HX620 and should not be loaded past 520W.
