I'm playing around with overclocking my i7-860 but there is one temp in HWMonitor that makes me worry.

Chipset : ITE IT87
TMPIN2 : ~70C within a few second of stress test

What component is that temp attached to and is it too much ?

By the way I have a CPU/GPU water cooling loop so the motherboard might have less airflow than with a normal CPU fan/heatsink.
 
whats the cpu temp at when its under load? try to match it to the cpu temp first.. make sure its not the cpu socket temp.. if it doesnt match then its most likely the chipset temp if its a NF200+x58 chipset..
 
It's P55 board and here are the load temp pattern :

TMPIN2: ~70C to 75C as soon has the stress test start

CPU: reach 88C after 15min of CPU and GPU stress test.

I might buy another rad which would bring down the CPU temp a lot but that TMPIN2 won't change so I'm curious to know what it is
 
i'm not sure what everyone else's take is on this but intel's thermal spec for the 860 is ~73C which means your cores should be running at ~78C tops (to be within intel spec). your temps are outrageous man, i'd never let my cpu get to 88...although im fighting with mid to high 60's right now on my 860 at 3.52ghz 1.20vcore

Dont worry I was just testing my watercooling so it ran over 80 for a grand total of 2min. Anyway it can withstand temp of up to 105C without physical damage but it will shorten it's life expectency. The thing is adding another rad will bring down the CPU temp but not the mobo temp so I need to know what temp is that tmpin2, is it too much and can I cool it down buy other means (passive would be cool).
