Huge Gaming CRT's

I've got an NEC Multisync FE1250+ that I'm using now. It has a nice sharp picture on it. I also have a Nokia 445Pro which supports MUCH higher refresh rates (I'm talking 160hz @ 1280x1024 :eek: ) but the text is slightly fuzzy though now b/c the horizontal and vertical alignments are slightly outta wack on it. But it's been a sweet monitor except for that (and actually it's still awsome for games b/c the alignment problem is only apparent in text on a white/grey background).

try finding a used dell trinitron p1110 21" monitor.. got mind for like 200 dollars! wonderful
 
The best 20+" monitors are the Mitsubishi 2070SB or the NEC equivalent FP2141SB. Both of these are 22", and both contain the super bright U-NX gun which is found only on the high end NEC/Mitsubishi monitors. The U-NX gun is also found on the 19" Mitsubishi 930SB and lots of people here love it.
 
yeah....we have those monitors at work with the superbright feature. I still haven't decided if I like it or not though. It almost makes the screen too bright depending on the adjustments it's already set at when you push the button....which caused color bleeding /streaking on the couple I messed around with. Could just be those couple monitors or the way they were adjusted though...brightness was turned about halfway up when I hit superbright...so I'm thinking that's the problem.

I have an NEC FP2141SB and absolutely love it. Well worth every penny, although in my experiences for normal use the SuperBright modes are entirely useless, being way too bright. I think what Skyviper is saying here is that the quality of the electron gun is unparalleled, and this is most certainly true; colors are bright and vivid on this monitor, and black is pitch black.
 
I would 2nd the suggestion for a used 21" trinitron.

I have a Dell (sony) P1110 that is 5 years old now. Because they are older, there are some great deals to be had.
 
My vote is for the 2141...For some reason I like the NEC name better even though they're the same...I liked the old Multisync Ds and FGs of the early 90s.
 
I used a HITACHI CM823F monitor for a long time before I got my 2001FP. Awesome gaming monitor, I prefer it over the Sony G520 or whatever by far.

Awesome refresh rates and dot pitch. Very light for a 21" monitor and about as compact as they can make it.

I hagve the Mitsubishi 2070sb and it is huge and has a very nice picture runs 1280x1024 at 120hz. I like.


I ahve been on a quest and throgh so many monitors to fine one that I like and I can tell you my old Gateway 13.5 inch monitor kills everything ive used in quality and clarity. Its just to small.

wow..that is light for a 21". I think my Nokia is 70lbs, and my NEC 1250 is around 80-ish.

I still haven't found a monitor to match the refresh rates of my Nokia 445pro. If you're looking for a refresh rate monster, check it out...it'll do 160hz at 1280x1024...and I think it goes up to 180hz at lower resolutions.

maybe this weekend I'll take it apart to see if I can fix the alignment problem...then I'd probably switch back to it and put my NEC in the basement for later use :)

If I recall, the text display on these monitors aren't that great, graphics-wise, you'll be praising it (so as a graphic designer, it sounds pretty much perfect). Hopefully the text display is not horrible. I'm looking at either this or a certain TFT screen.
 
I personally do not own the 2070SB, but I have heard many things about it. In a perfect world, I would have a 2070SB for gaming and a 23" LCD for doing other stuff :D .

too true - now a friend of mine got one and so far it's *very* blurry on arrival. i'm putting together a rig for him, so we didn't bother trying to get things right up to now. if it doesn't get better we'll RMA the thing, as for the stellar reviews it gets everywhere it HAS to be sharper than that! it's the most stylish monitor i've seen to date, though :)

as for me personally i'd rather go with a 2001FP if you're aiming at costs as high as you'd pay for a 2070SB, but that's just my personal opinion...

as for a less pricey option you should look into the Samsung 1100DF, which is a nice monitor albeit the DigitalFlat tube's colors are not as crisp as the mitsubishi's. incredibly sharp though and dirt cheap. newegg has them for 470ish here
 
Look for the discontinued 24" Sony GDMFW900 before supply dries up.
