huge artifacting problems - help fast

Serveral weeks ago I started getting these strange artifacts on my desktop, see the screenshot

I don't know what the problem is but i know its not a heat issue.
I suspect it might be a mobo problem, is that a possibility?
Any help wud b greatly appreciated

my card is an HIS 9800pro 128mb ICEQ (stock speeds)
psu-400W
mobo- asus A7V8X-X
AMD Athlon XP 2400+
 
Looks like your card might be fubar, If its a mobo problem try to using another card. If you get it with the other card then it is, if you don't then its your card.
 
I had an artifacting problem with a 1.4ghz t-bird, MMX instructions failed after 2 years on it. Replaced CPU and it started working again...

Thus I know it could be a CPU problem, but unlikely of that nature.

Anyone know of similar problems due to motherboards??
 
i have an abit v17, a FX5600 with omega drivers, everytime i overclock the video card with very high core/mem my monitor happens to show what you are experiencing. therefore if your card is at stock speed, return the card.
 
the strange thing is (shoulda mentioned this before) that I only get these artifacts sometimes. There are days when i turn on my pc and i can run a intensive 3d program for hours without a single problem, other days it glitches as soon as i boot up.
any idea y this might b happening if it is a faulty card?
 
I donno if you should try the Catalyst 4.9's.. there's another thread saying that there were some artifact issues with it. But give it a whirl, i don't think it could get much worse..
 
yeah i tried that, no difference between the 4.9s or 4.8s for me
would it make any difference to try a 3rd party driver?
 
I have similar artifacts on a "decaying" mobo. Wierdest thing... we run Dell Precision 360's here at my work, with Nvidia FX3000s for CAD. One came back to our group the other day with an intermittent artifacting issue. Sometimes it would work fine for days, sometimes it would fail at boot. We replaced everything... narrowed it down to the mobo. Replaced the mobo and the same card, absolutely no issue. Here is the wierd thing though - may have been a voltage problem as well, because it only did it on the FX3000s. Put a 1000 in and the issue would not appear.

yeah, that sounds like my problem, i guess i'll try and check my card in another pc and then if its good order myself a good abit mobo
