HTT Problem

I built this system almost a year ago, and I haven't really had any major problems. The stability has been okay, but I do a lot of video compression/processing and wanted a performance boost. I just upgraded to XP x64, and thought I should attempt an OC to go with it. First I tried nTune, but it freezes up after about 20 minutes. I just read an overclocking guide, which basically says to get the maximum of your HTT, CPU, RAM, and HT, and then figure out how everything is going to go with each other. Well, I haven't been able to get past the first part of getting my max HTT.

I followed the guide perfectly, and I haven't been able to get the HTT to go higher than 219. I save to BIOS, reboot, and my monitor goes black and I can hear like fuzzy static or something. It just hangs, and doesn't even POST, so I hold down the power button for 5sec and then it does actually boot up into Windows at whatever HTT I had it at. Has anybody ever heard of something like this?

So you think okay it doesn't boot when you first change the BIOS, hold down the power, and then it boots so what's the problem? Well, I have to do this every time I start up the computer. Once I powerdown and boot into Windows everything is okay, but every time I restart the computer the same fuzzy static black screen comes and I have to reset. WTF?

This happens EVERY time I put the HTT above 219. And what's weird, is that it does this no matter what I have the HT or CPU multipliers at. Right now I have the HTT@219 with multipliers maxed at 5x and 10x, but I've gone all the way down with the HT@3x along with the CPUmultiplier@6x, and it still does the same thing every time I go 220 or above.

Keep in mind this is my first time trying to OC, so could I be forgetting to do something?

I have the CPUvid@1.450 w/ a 3.3%OVERvid = 1.497v
I have the Memory@100MHz w/ 2.70v
I have the Chipset@1.60v

I do have the PCIE locked at 100MHz, but I didn't see in the BIOS where I can lock the PCI at 33MHz. I'm using the latest BIOS MSI released also.

?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

You've got the HT @x3 so that's outta the equation.

You've lowered the RAM to 100 so that too, should be outta the equation.

And you've even tried lowering the cpu multiplier to x6 or x7.

I'm no expert so maybe I'm missing something, but somethin' is not right.

What I'd try next is raise the CPU voltage to 1.5 or 1.55v. I wouldn't risk going any higher. But to do what you're tryin' to do, you normally shouldn't have to touch the voltage unless your multiplier was up at x11 or x12.

Sorry I couldn't offer you any better advice.

You might wanna check with CPU-Z and Sisoft Sandra that your multipliers and clock speeds are really what you set them at in BIOS.

I have the non sli version of the neo4 platinum and had overclocking problems until I disabled all the extra bs options in the bios. Disable coolnquiet, cpu spread spectrum, aggressive timings mode, auto overclocking, and anything else that you notice which seems unnecessary. Sorry but I can;t remember every option. I believe those were the main ones though.

I Have the SLI Version of the Neo 4 Plat, (See My Sig for Details), I agree, disable CnQ & ALSO Disable all General & Commander Overclocking crap, better to do it Manually, I'm Using the 1.7 Bios, Hope that helps. :)

I ran into the same problem.
I fixed it by setting my Multi @ 11

I couldn't OC past 235 X 10.
I Set the DDR to 333MHz and raised the multi to 11 and now I can hit 2.6GHz @ 1.65v, but my cooling is keeping me @ 2.45GHz

Try raising your Multi a bit.

Check My Sig for details, I have mine currently @ 265 x 10 = 2.650 W/An Opty170, running a HTT Multi of 4, On My Neo 4 Plat SLI, Hope that helps

Thanks a lot for all of your replies... I did everything you all suggested, but no hope. I just recently found out that there is a bug with Neo4's and the Winchester revision that I have, respectively named the 219 bug. The only thing to fix it other than get a new CPU is to OC as high as it will go and then use a Windows based overclocker to go higher.

Anyone have a Venice for sale for cheap?

Heres something to check.

I have crucial DDR400 ram which works perfectly, overclocks well but does a strange thing when using the SPD /Auto timing settings while underclocking a lot (when finding the max HTT).
I found that some low memory divider settings would not allow the PC to function unless I set the memory timings to those it uses at DDR400 or DDR333.
Try using a different ram divider setting and/or set the ram to use DDR333/400 timings.
