HTT(FSB) hits max 220?

as the title says..is that low? Is it my ram?

I've been trying to follow Eclipse's guide..but I'm fairly new to this AMD64 OCing. Bear with me.

I'm running an 3200+ Venice on a MSI Neo2 nf3 board. Running dual channel 2 x 512 of pc3200 crucial memory (bought it just over a yr ago..unsure of specs). THe MSI HTT maxes out at about 275.

Using an XP-90, but motherboard monitor reports horrible load temps at 53C!

Any advice would be appreciated. thanks in advice.

Run a divider of 1:2 to rule out the ram, and drop the CPU multi to 5x. Then drop the HTT multi to 2x and see how high you can go on the HTT that way.

does the bios also report those temps? I was under the impression MBM was pretty outdated, it wouldn't run with my DFI.

Try everest for a different set of readouts to confirm the temps, as well as checking the bios.

but it's 220 in the title? make up your mind

perhaps you mean the ram can't go ocer 220mhz, while the board can do 275mhz? :p

sorry - i'm even gettin the nomenclature wrong. Ya Eclipse..board goes 275, ram fails out at 220 (is that a horrible number?)

I'm running a divider of 1:2 right now..I'll see how I can take it up. I'm up to 233 now.

per everest home edition - memory timings are 2.5-3-3-8 @ 200mhz.
Motherboard temp is reporting 26C and CPU at 45C @ load.

Stock voltage and everything else is unchanged.

Sounds like your having the same issues i am with mine.

so the ram at those timings stops working around 220mhz? what voltage in the bios?
just out of curiosity, did you really follow through with the ram section of the guide, or did you just push the mhz on the ram without tweaking anything?

I have it set on "auto" for ram voltage.

Nope - I did not follow through with the ram OCing. I just pushed the FSB without tweaking anything and it freezes at about 220. Should I try that?

definitly do it. also, stock timings on that crucial is 3-3-3

my 1gb crucial value stick can only get to 224mhz at 2.5-3-3.. but 250mhz at 3-3-3

if you have a SATA HDD ..move it to SATA 3 or 4. On the MSI neo 2 plat board like Eclipse OC guide says they are unlock and if your board hits 220 and wont go any higher that might be the case. Also what kind of PSU do you have on your cpu? I use to have the same problem too until i moved the SATA HDD to 3 and it was OCING fine ever since. :D

all of the nf3 based sata ports are unlocked :(
but we know this isn't the issue, as the baord can do 275mhz. i think it's the ram timings

Sorry - haven't gotten the chance to fully test the ram yet with memtest. I'll try tonight or tomorrow.

I'm not using any SATA drives.

On another note, I was able to use 1.3v @ stock and run it fine through prime. Temps are still going around 50C at load. Even at that voltage...

Eclipse and others..

So I just finished running memtest.
Ram timings set at 2.5-3-3-8.

Gives errors at 221mhz. I didnt adjust the voltage or timings after that...wanted to get some direction from you guys first.

thanks for helping me through this.

EDIT: I just realized I don't have crucials..but Mushkin memory..if that helps any.
EDIT: Looks like this Mushkin stuff is POS. I just ran mem test with 2.7v ram and 3-7-11 (hella relaxed) and it still gave an error at 221mhz!! Am I jumping to conclusions about the ram?

Bumpity bump please.

If you guys think its the ram..what ram should I go get now? :D

I know the general consensus are the crucial sticks that Eclipse keeps referring too. I'm running a MSI Neo2 nf3 so I don't think the voltage on the ram allows me to increase a bunch. correct me if i'm wrong.

I'm looking to *hopefully* run at least 250+ fsb. Still torn between 1 vs 2gb...but my price range is $150-200. All suggestions are welcome - and yes, I've read the many posts on ram already. Just wanted to get confirmation that crucial is the way to go.

Thanks.

I've found most RAM is pretty safe at 2.85 volts, I don't even have a fan on mine and it's just warm to the touch. To go higher you will need to raise the voltage..go for it ;)

yeah, the 5b D gets pretty hot over 2.7v though

also.. have you tried one stick of ram?

I got my chaintech to 312 htt when I was ranking it to see how hi wuz the sky.

I guess that gives me a e-schongle 18" X 4".

or not.

Alright - being that I'm out of town right now..unfortunately I can't try to run just one stick.

But anyhow, I need to use this Mushkin ram for my ohter system anyways so I'm looking to spend some cash!

I think I'm going to stick with 1gb (2x512) for OCing reasons, cost, and I don't play bf2.

I'm narrowed it down to the following three:
Beloved crucial value 512gb
http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/FeedBack/CustratingReview.asp?item=N82E16820146532

Crucial Ballistix 512gb
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820146546

Corsair 512gb
http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/FeedBack/CustRatingReview.asp?DEPA=0&Item=N82E16820145416&page=3

Unless you guys have any other suggestions I'm looking at these three. Budget is around $150. Looking to hit 250fsb or so...but those crucials sure look tempting for the price...
Thoughts?

Got the ballistixs.

Per memtest I can run them up to 2.5-2-2-6 @240.

What to do next? I tried OCing and it crashed at 2.4ghz. (10x240)

Am I doing something wrong? Or did I just get a dud venice???
