Let me try something different instead of wandering the For Sale posts aimlessly. I'm looking to build a media center for my "outdoor theater" showings this summer. So, I'm looking for motherboard/cpu combos, and I don't want to spend a fortune. I have 2 ways I can go with this. I can either buy something to upgrade my son's PC which is running an Opteron 148 socket 939 system and use his system for my media center, or I can leave his in tact and use whatever I buy here for my media center.

What I'm looking for:
AM2 Motherboard and cpu (preferably dual core, but will consider single Athlon 64's).
939 Motherboard and cpu
775 Motherboard and cpu (preferably dual core)
RAM (that will fit whatever system is offered; 1 ~ 2gb)
Hard drive (nothing fancy, 160gb and above)
Video Card (anything that will handle blu ray acceleration; looking for a mid-range card but will consider low-end cards like 3450, 2600xt, etc.)

How much you looking to spend?
Do you need a OS?
What state and zip is shipping to?

I am looking to sell my system and go with a laptop.
It is a quad core phenom setup, with onboard ATI HD3200 video & HDMI.
This motherboard:

The HD3200 can accelerate HD / Blu ray video.

I can give you from 1GB to 8GB of DDR2.

I have a Vista Home Premium 64bit OEM that goes with it, so this should work perfect for outdoor theater. I just want to go with a smaller laptop with HDMI out, which is why I am selling this.

PM me the requested info if interested.

By the way, it doesn't have to be combos. If you've got a motherboard by its self or a cpu, let me know. Maybe at the right price, I can get from different people.

Hey, what happened? I had some other posts here by some users and some bumps. Oh well...bump any way.

Unless you plan to use Vista, kiss the blu-ray goodbye unless you manage to rip a copy of it in h/x.264 down to your viewing machine. HDCP runs ok at best on XP, and is native to Vista. Bear in mind also, buying a new Blu-Ray rom or whatever retail is your best option, as they usually include a compatible software player.

Hardware wise....my x2 5050e dual core has more than enough power to push all vid I have, and the onboard HD3200 does very nicely at accelerating video, no skips or jumps even with 1080p compressed video. I use a lone Vista machine to rip my blu's down to the HTPC compressed, then use MediaPortal for the info on each within it's interface(usually the IMDB info). My overly priced blu-rays then hit the storage shelf til needed again later.

If outdoor viewing is the target, make sure your outputs match your projector, and in turn, the projector can handle HD input....or all the blu-ray hardware on the planet won't help you.

I also noted somewhere, somebody(maybe best buy?) has a neat inflatable 9 foot screen for outdoor viewings as such, I was impressed by it then and should have nabbed it when I had the chance. It was well priced for what it was at the time, and the best part was it takes up about as much room as a tent for 4 when deflated.

Good Luck! I love my HTPC, have used it for years and just upgrade when needed, they take some work to keep the WAF factor in the high numbers...but worth it generally. PM if you need more advice/help/ideas....I'd be happy to help.

Bump.

I've had my HTPC going for a few years inside. I'm just looking to build something to use outdoors on occasion when we hook the projector up and have people over. I hope to build a nice screen at some point, but for now we've been using a queen-sized bed sheet which works very nicely. I just want it bigger. I have ripped blurays to the hard drive as an ISO and then transferred them over the network to another PC, and then mounted with Virtual Clone Drive and then played. So that's what I'm looking for with this "media PC" for outdoors. I may not always play bluray, mostly it will be DVDs, and probably some DivX files, but I want it flexible enough to play anything.

I'm still taking offers. I got my tax money back, so I'm looking to get this project finished. Let me know what you have.

Another bed time bump.

Another item I'm looking for is an AC power cord for a Wii. I've been moving the Wii to the living room some times so we can play on the wall using the projector. I want 2 of everything so that I don't have to keep plugging and unplugging in my son's room each time. I have component cables and I bought a wireless sensor bar; the only thing I need is the power cord.

As far as the PC, I bought a video card so my main interests are the cpu, motherboard, RAM, PSU, and hard drive.

Bump.

Anyone have an AM2 HSF they want to get rid of cheap? I don't care if it's a stock HSF.

hey, i have a few HSFs. I wish just build and sold a combo. LMK if you need DDR2 or DDR ram. i have stick for those. lmk, we can probably work something out

NewEgg has an unbeatable deal for a HTPC video card...

Radeon HD 3450 256MB w/ HDMI out

Currently $29.99 less $10.00 MIR makes $19.99

.
BTW, I should have the plain ol' aluminum AMD HSF for SK939/AM2 if that's what you're looking for.

Another bump. Still looking for everything except video card. At the moment, biggest need is for an AM2 HSF, cheap.

{sigh} Another bump. Still haven't found what I'm looking for. Still racking my brain and scouring the net for a decent deal on motherboard, cpu, ram, or combo.

One more bump before I go and buy "new".

At this moment, I'm looking for a 939 or AM2 system; needs to have at least 1gb of RAM, motherboard, cpu HSF, and of course the cpu. CPU should be something like an Athlon 64 3400+ or better. Price should be around $50 for it all shipped.
