Essentially, I only use a computer to connect to my 50" 1080p TV to watch the movies I have in digital form on hard drives. I currently have an HTPC with the following specs:

Pentium D 3.4Ghz
Intel 945
2GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400
ATI HD 3450 HDMI
Corsair VX450 PSU
750GB Hitachi SATA II

I'm considering just buying a 1.5TB external hdd, and using my new laptop to push movies to the TV when I want to watch a movie, and selling the HTPC in order to use the funds to upgrade my Q6600 rig to an i7 setup.

My laptop has the following specs:
Centrino 2 (Core 2 Duo P7350 @2Ghz)
2GB ram
ATI HD 3450 discrete graphics
HDMI output

I primarily stream DVD rips in AVI format, however I do have a few Blu-Ray rips. It seems like my laptop is faster than the HTPC anyways, and it would be smarter to just plug the laptop in when I want to watch a movie, and use the cash from selling the HTPC in order to upgrade my Q6600 machine. What are your thoughts? Is this a no-brainer?
