I am contemplating a video card upgrade for my HTPC. I currently only use the onboard Geforce 4 MX . I haven't ever used it to play games but am considering upgrading the card because I wont have access to my main PC for a while (having surgery), but do have access to the HTPC. I want a MINIMAL graphics card to play games like BF1942 as well as World of Warcraft. I havent tried using the onboard card yet for games, but I highly doubt the games will be playable. Thinking of a Nvidia based card for the upgrade, but can be convinced otherwise. Hoping to stay around $150.

I could be wrong, maybe the onboard is good enough that spending $150 on a vid card isn't worth the performance increase, hoping to get some input/opinions.

Running an AMD 2600+ with 756MB pc 2100. Hauppauge 350 and 150, SBlive sound card.
Here is the HTPC mainboard info.

Sounds like you want a used 9700 Pro, or a new 9600 Pro. If you want to go with nVidia, NewEgg has the XFX 6600 AGP version for 180, perhaps you could find a better price if you shopped around. Either card would be fantastic for a temporary gaming rig.

One concideration to make is how often you will play games on it after you get your main rig back. That combined with your noise conciderations can influence your decision. If you are going to continue to game on it and dont mind some noise then I would echo the suggestion of the AGP 6600gt. If you are striving for true silence then you can probably do some light gaming at ok settings on a FX5200 or 9600np with a passive heatsink.
