htpc upgrade path?

My htpc is just "ok". Does everything I want it to but sloooooowly. Video encoding and copying and burning movies is slow as molasses (its has dual LG blueray drives and one is a burner). The current set up is a 5200x2 (90nm) at the stock 2.6ghz, asus m2n sli deluxe, xfx 8500gt, and 4gb of OCZ 800mhz ram. I was looking for advice on an upgrade path for maybe the CPU (maybe even the mother board if i have no other alternative). I see phenoms and new athlons are working in these boards (even thought the HT is going to be hampered) but is it worth it? Was thinking of just going for quad on this board but if its going to be that crippled why bother? The cpu i have now isnt very low powered at 89watts but i have been happy with the electrical bill so far so that is not a concern. Any advice will be appreciated.
