HTPC output to LCD & PJ?

Ok.. I need to have my htpc output to either my lcd, or my pj.
Ive seen the dvi splitters at monoprice. Would this work? Just turn off the device im not using? Would a dvi switch work better? Thanks in advance :)
 
Well, it depends on the resolution of either device. What I would do is have a graphics card with two DVI outputs, then have it setup in clone mode or however you need it for your setup. If you just have a single DVI, use a splitter.
 
i had a very similar setup for a while..

i used the "Clone" mode with my Nvidia graphics card..

the one thing to keep in mind, when duplicating that you have to be very conscience of the resolution of both of the devices...


with me i just ended up going with the lesser resolution device.. which was a custom 1280x720 (720p)..

if i didn't i had the odd behavior of the picture not looking correctly on 1 device or the other..

i've since just dropped it and went with a larger LCD (the headache of 2 displays wasn't worth it for me)..
 
Agh, I should add I have a single dvi ouput. What id like to achieve is being able to switch from either source, without having to see either screen. Say the gf wants to watch sex and the city, which is DEFINELTY not a valid use of bulb life (hehe). She would need to swap dvi cables, or in the previous setup power on the pj, switch main display to VGA (which i dont want to use on my lcd) then power it back off. Id like a more "gf friendly method"
If I use a dvi splitter, Id have some pc adjustments to do correct? Or would it just auto display to whatever is powered on? At one point I thought of getting a dual DVI card and seeing if there is software I can program a hotkey for each output... ? Thanks again.

Alright - time for a new card. Will try clone mode.
