I am thinking of dumping my ps3 for a htpc which will stream all content from my NAS. Now the only thing stopping m is a decent all in one keyboard and mouse that's small, wireless and is backlit for night time use,

I have [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-Multimedia-Remote-with-Keyboard/dp/B0036VO67I"]Amazon.com: Lenovo Multimedia Remote with Keyboard: Electronics@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/21Tp99pSfcL.@@AMEPARAM@@21Tp99pSfcL[/ame] for my HTPC, however, its not backlit. I only use it for configuration stuff and my Harmony 880 handles all media selection and playback.

Are you intending on using it for web browsing or other stuff? Or might you really want a remote?

I've been using my iTouch 2nd gen and have been pretty satisfied with it.

XBMC = XBMC Controller
Mouse/Keyboard = Mobile Mouse

I do have an iPad. Would this work? Any decent app that would allow me to use it like a keyboard mouse combo?

It's even better on an iPad. They have the same software, mobile mouse and XBMC controller.

I personally use the Logitech DiNovo Mini which can be found here:

http://www.logitech.com/en-us/keyboards/keyboard/devices/3848

Its compact, blacklit, supports Bluetooth and combines the best of both worlds when it comes to keyboard and mouse integration. In terms of using your IPAD to control your HTPC, it all depends on what front end your using. I use Win7 MCE and what I found works for me is the following:

MyMovies for IPAD:
http://www.mymovies.dk/products/my-movies-for-ipad.aspx

or

wmcRemote:
http://vmcmote.blogspot.com/

Both apps have virtual remote capabilities and allow complete control over MCE and there is no requirement to have a jailbroken device.

I read there are some bluetooth connectivity issues with the logitech dinovo mini device. Have you experienced this?

Mobile mouse app is great on both iphone/itouch and ipad. Its nicer on the ipad if you do a lot of typing. No jailbreak is needed. I think there is a free version to try out and compare.

I have used my dinovo mini on 3 different systems and only had issues with 1. The Bluetooth would loose it's connection coming out of sleep. It's was pretty easy to resolve, just press the connection buttons or pull the battery. You can now get the boxer box remote for around $50, you may want to consider it.
