Are there any current, up-to-date guides on how to build an HTPC? I am interested in watching dish TV through an HTPC.

I had DirecTV and you are really limited as to what you can do with the outputs on the satellite receivers, unless you want to use a lower than HDMI quality signal. Like analog. The networks and content owners require the Dish companies to use a lot of DRM and other protections. At least with cable you can use a cable card.
