I have been trying, for over a week, what course to take with my htpc.
Specs:
Q6700 G0 1.325 VID 2.66 Ghz
ZALMAN CNPS 8700 NT 110mm Heatsink
Abit IB9 P965 Motherboard
SILVERSTONE HTPC Case - Version #1
4GB DDR2 800 (1GB x4)
ATI 4350
2 x WD 500GH AAKS
First Issue is the Case. I have version 1, which only has 2 x 60mm fans.
Here is a link to Version #2
Version 1 does not even have the side vents. Only air that can be pulled in is through the empty DVD slot.
Because of the fan issue, case temps are a little higher then I like when Folding but nothing hardful (60C). There is also no airflow on the left side of the case which is were the hard drives are.
It also seems that when the room temp hits a certain mark, i can hear the back 2 fans spin up louder. It is not very loud, but if the TV is off / muted, you can hear the fans running. Once the room drops a degree, all is perfect again.
Second question is if i should upgrade the motherboard & cpu.
The motherboard does not even officiall support the Q6700 and supports no 45nm CPUs.
Because of this, i *can* overclock but temps are bad due to airflow (see #1 issue)./
I am getting +/- 5300 PPD with A3 with this system.
My only other option would be to drop the voltage down and see if i remain stable to cut out some heat.
Any Suggestions on what I could do?
