Anyone know a good cheap HTPC case, I would like to build a HTPC with spare parts.. I dont want to spend alot. Every case I can find is 100+.... anyone know where I could find a decent case for around 50-60 dollars?
 
anything sub $100 is going to have poor air circulation as a general rule. I have an athenatech matx case that looks decent and has decent airflow. You can also still find the coolermaster ATC620 around the net. best looking budget case out there.
 
The Antec NSK2400 can be had for as low as $75.99 plus shipping (shipping varies from about $9 near Texas to $16 to Boston.) This case is designed from the ground up for cool, quiet operation. I own this case's bigger brother, and I'd recommend both of them to anyone.
 
Well I would like to get a htpc case, but I do alot of gaming, so I was wondering if big video cards would be okay for this. Such as a 7900gt or the new 8800.
 
is your mobo a micro-atx motherboard? Most people don't have m-atx mobos as spare parts. Can you guys recommend any ATX HTPC cases?
 
I just got an Ahanix DVine 5 from these guys. They have a couple of auctions for the same case. I remember these case were highly regarded. I got mine with the VFD for $96 shipped.

I just got one too (no VFD), I am going to pull that out of my Ahanix 302 case.

The down side is it takes a mATX power supply and thoes are hard to find with good specs. I am probably going to mod this case a bit, putting the power supply twoards the front of the case and put a regular ATX power supply in it. Instead of the VFD I am going to take apart my MCE USB remote receiver and mount it there. I'm going to have to figure out what to do to make it as silent as possible but able to cool a C2D 6300 and 7900GS.

I love my Antec NSK2400, very nice case with a pretty darn good ps and with the cpu cooler, it is very quiet.
 
I really should have read the 'spare parts' provision better. I totally agree, the NSK requires an unusal mATX board, and is probably impractical for the obligatory 'spare parts' first build that everybody goes through. I'd highly recommend it though for the 'let's get more serious' second htpc build.
