Htpc case good or bad idea

I'm going to be building a new pc with a e8400 and a 8800gt. What i was wondering is it a bad idea to go with a htpc case? I really cant find a regular pc case that i like so i was going to buy a zalman hd160+. I was thing maybe they were made for low heat and noise applications so im confused.
 
Most htpc cases have tiny, loud fans and poor airflow compared to a regular case, but if you don't OC you shouldn't have much heat problems
 
it really depends on the case you are planning to use. most htpc cases are aimed at reducing noise levels so airflow will be adequate, number of fans will be minimal, etc. unless you're going for insane overclocks you'll be fine with your hardware choices and that zalman case. the 8800gt is pretty good about temps compared to the previous 8800s and the newer c2d run cooler as well.
 
Probably looking at the specific case he mentioned before making gross generalizations about HTPC cases would have been a good idea... The zalman case looks to have decent cooling and large enough (80mm) fans. I personally use an Antec NSK2400, currently being sold as the 2480 or fusion, depending on features (volume knob and LCD on the Fusion, neither on the 2480).

The Antec htpc case uses two side-mounted 120mm fans and does a nice job of decent cooling without significant noise.
 
I looked at it and willingly lumped it in with other HTPC cases. That one is designed to be quiet and low rpm 80mm fans are gonna have trouble moving the air out of that case. It really depends on your third party CPU/VGA coolers and how they integrate into the case airflow whether it will work for good OCs or not.
 
Im not familiar with Zalmans cases but a good system should definatly be doable. Ive crammed higher wattage stuff into smaller cases. Again, not familiar with Zalman's case or the accessories bundled with, but Id count on spending more on different fans and aftermarket cooling.

Do some searches on this forum, SPCR, or google to see some other users builds or ideas on the case. Always good to know what your jumping into before you buy it.
